Try Cozens for Swayman

Offer sheets tend to be tough to make sense for the team+player, but I always wondered if more backup goalies would consider that route if they were offered starter money elsewhere. Florida preemptively gave Spencer Knight a 3x4.5 extension since they were worried that some teams would approach him this offseason.

A 4.2 mil AAV offer sheet would have required a 2nd rounder as compensation this season. That number will go up slightly when next season's cap is announced. But Swayman could very well be happy to stay in Boston and decline any offer sheets (but also use it as leverage).

And the other difficult thing with offer sheets is that the original team has a week to match. So if you offer sheeted a goalie on the first day of free agency, you might lock yourself out from the rest of the UFA goalie market. If the original team matched, then there might not be much left worth signing.

San Jose gave Boston a 2016 1st rounder for a 25 year old Martin Jones who only had 34 career NHL starts to that point but had a decent AHL track record. There seem to be indications that the 2024 Draft is looking a little lackluster.

TL;DR - The goalie RFA market might be more closely tied to the draft pick compensation levels than for proven NHL players.

Until the exact cap figure for next year is known, it's really hard to talk any Boston based trade proposals. They will need to move some guys out, but until the exact number is known it's going to be hard to know how much they need to move out... and how much space various teams will have. Like, for instance, will one season of Forbort cost the Bruins to send out or would he be an asset? Too early to say.

Rosen has been underwhelming since he was drafted and I don't see Middlestadt developing into a top-6 centre. It's a miss but it's not a bad swing.

?? Underwhelming how? He was in the shl and his team screwed him out of minutes. He has been very good in AHL this year and lately as good as Kulich per his coach. Developing fine for a mid 1st rd pick who needs to add size/strength. This is a normal to good mid first round trajectory. Also mittelstadt is already a middle 9 solid player who will score 50+ this year - are you expecting back a real top end number 2 center? That’s not happening any time…

Why are you confused? Young 20s C for young 20s G.

Buffalo needs a goalie moving forward, Boston needs C moving forward.

Buffalo has Tage, Bruins have Ullmark.
You would have a point if Swayman was signed to a 7 year deal that was reasonable for his position. As it stands he has a lot less value.

Why would Boston help out Buffalo unless they offer something insane?
Cap room is at a premium for Boston and it is a good bet that Swayman will be asking for $4 million at minimum for his next contract. Doesn’t make sense to pay that much to back up arguably the best goalie in the game today.
As a Bruins fan, that's simply way too much value for Swayman

With that said if it came down to the Bruins moving a goalie I would actually prefer they move Ullmark.

Cash in on him having a Hart trophy worthy season and still have your goalie of the future that fits the re-tool we likely have to do over the next 2 years
There is an argument to what you’re proposing but teams don’t turn around and trade Vezina winners/Hart candidates. Especially those on great deals.

That didn’t answer my question
