yeah based on all the smoke + KA comments, Skinner is a goner.

From one article:
The League’s first buyout period begins Thursday, June 27, and will run until Sunday, June 30, at 5 p.m. ET.

Didn't know it went until Sunday. I'd like to see a trade made with retention. But, if he is bought out, would he take league min to play in TO? He's certainly earned enough career $.

He will probably become a re-tooling team’s bargain bin find for once teams sign their priorities. I could see him going to Vegas, Los Angeles, or a team like Dallas. Maybe he ends up in Tampa or Florida. I can see him fitting on a bunch of teams, but I don’t see him being a priority for anybody.

I’d be willing to wager that he’s changed his mind about only wanting to go to a limited amount of teams after playing here.

lol what other options did Ruff have? He’s here because Pegula is cheap! What, did you think he was the best coach on the market or something?

Ruff could turn out to be great but part of his fit was New Jersey is paying part of his contract. And for Ruff? He has family in the area. And Buffalo is still an NHL with a lot of great young talent and potential. No denying that. But money factors into this. Money factors into everything in life. The question is always how much and are you being short-sighted.

Skinner has said many times that playing close to home is his #1 priority. That's why he would only waive to Buffalo or Toronto before. This is why he's not waiving now.

If we buy him out, it's not going to shock me if he takes a stupidly cheap deal to play for Toronto or maybe even just doesn't play at all.

Why would Skinner not play at all. There will be tons of demand for him on a one year deal.

Assuming someone goes to arbitration.

If skinner will not waive his nmc at all, hope Sabres wait until second buyout window to buy him out.

I think it all depends on whether Adams can acquire a top 6 winger to replace him.

If he can make a trade before Sunday at 5pm, then Skinner gets bought out in this window.

I'm all for buying out Skinner next year. This year I don't understand it. It gives them one year of cap space that they can only rent players into.

To me, either way it sucks. Now, you get one year of significant cap savings that you correctly point out can't really be used for any long-term improvement. Do it next year though and it's almost pointless.

At this point it seems they have tried to move him and he is unwilling to waive. We can infer that from Adams’ comments the last few days that they have asked him. They don’t want him back, can’t see that working well for the player or the team at this point. The bridge has been crossed.

Even then, isn't it better cap math to just sit him this year and buy him out next?

The biggest difference that matters is more actual money saved. I don't believe Sabres will be all that close to salary cap. I guess we'll see but a buyout and not being close to cap is not logical.

If I were running the Sabres, I simply would not want him on the team. Ruff is going to be trying to instill a whole new mindset and style of play that will require total buy-in from his players. Skinner has shown over the years in Carolina and Buffalo that he pretty much marches to the beat of his own drummer - making the installation of a system that emphasizes a complete 200 foot game with defensive responsibilities unlikely to get buy-in from Skinner.

Having a $9 million AAV player on the roster with Skinner's track record as a free spirit, with a significant diminution of skill apparent, taking a spot on the game day roster be it top line or bottom 6 and being played just because they are paying him so much - a situation to be avoided at all costs, IMO.

You just can't have one guy out there doing what ever the f'k he wants, playing however the f'k he wants to play.

Thus, though reasonable arguments have been made for delaying the buyout until next year, I would not want him on my team past June 30th
