Because they don't want to hurt his feelings.
I get so annoyed with lots of my family/friends always saying they hope we re-sign/extend player X because hes “nice” or has a cool nickname I want a winning team and have been made to feel “mean” for my opinion lol. Good riddance to Poolparty.

I am one of them. Skinner needs to mesh with this team but once he does he will be important. I bet he's a fixture of the top six by playoff time. That's my fantasy. Maybe that will be a key event in McDavid ramping up his production

On a true contender like the Oilers hope to be, having poor defense is awful. Skinner is tantalizing but either he can't do defense and therefore shouldn't play a single playoff game, or he figures out defense and becomes a likely playoff hero. He's a risky add but I like that
Doesn't need to be Skinner.. if it's Connor friggin Brown then so be it.. Skinner, Arvidsson, Kane, Brown, Janmark , Hyman, Nuge , Podkolzin are in the same tier for me.. play whoever is clicking in top 6... could even be Savoie or Kapanen.. heck even Janmark or Henrique could be in top 6.

Or Skinner could not be a dbag to the fanbase and team by being a complete waste of space. Time to move on.

Has he actually been that bad? He seemed alright in most of the games
Considering he's played almost exclusively in the bottom 6 this year he's not producing all that bad. On pace for ~30ish points. But the -9 on a team that prides itself on playing strong defensive hockey just doesn't fly with the head coach. He's responded well to the single game healthy scratch though. 3 points and +2 in 3 games playing ~10-12 minutes.

Nope.

He's not though.

Jeff Skinner has no plan to back check or play defense either
Incorrect. Seen him back check and block shots this year. It's not his forte, but he is trying. I suspect Knoblauch put him in the bottom 6 for that very reason to work on his details away from the Puck.

He’s still a good player. When Skinner gets hot he’s as good as any great scorer in the league. He didn’t hit the ground running (not a shock) so he ended up in the bottom six. Easy to see him get hot and have big moments down the stretch and/or in the playoffs.

Did anyone actually expect him to walk out and lose the rest of his $3m?

This is the most pointless thread ever.

Has points in last 3 games and seems to have developed some chemistry with Henrique. Lets see how long he can keep it up. For some it's much easier to play well on a line with a Henrique and Hyman than Mcdavid or Draisaitl.

Playoff hero, Jeff Skinner? If we could get out of his deal we should. The NMC we likely can’t. I’d love to be proven wrong about JS but saying this is a risk you like? Are you being honest here or is this just in keeping with your username?

Yeah he seems to have bought into what the coach demands of the team. I guess we'll see.

He won't be back in Oiler silks next year.

We should trade him? Won’t be back next year? Same could be said about Connor Brown last year at this time. The story ain’t over with JSkinner yet. He’s already providing much needed depth scoring, and there’s a lot of time left on the year.

I'll say it's hilarious how Oilers fans on here told us he'd be lighting it up with McJesus and Draisaitl. Here he is, on pace for his second worst season.

Even if he's a support player or a healthy scratch come playoff time, he's still good insurance for any injuries if the Oilers go on a run.
