Jeff Skinner got his one playoff game and hasnt been seen since

Put this on the least surprising thing ever list. He is a selfish 1 way player who has always been un-coachable.

Honestly it would be a pretty cool feather in his cap to retire as a career PPG player in the playoffs. He could tell that to his grandkids, friends, the friends of his grandkids... I'm sure he would tell it to anyone who would listen.

At this point, he is probably calling the shots in terms of staying in the pressbox. You don't want to mess up a stat like that.

You need a good goalie to safely engage in the type of high event hockey that Skinner provides, and the Oilers don't have it unfortunately.

The thing about Skinner is despite being offensively minded he actually tries defending pretty hard ( at least on Buffalo). He's just small, pretty slow and not very good at it.

This is pretty much it.

The gameplan with Vegas was to punish their Dmen with fast and heavy players, and score greasy dirty goals. Skinner and Arvidsson lost his spots to Kane and Frederic.

Skinner and Arvidsson were 6th and 7th on the team for goals scored with no PP time, but they're sitting because they wouldn't be able to play the style we needed to beat Vegas. The refs aren't calling shit, and it's clear they wouldn't be able to fight through the holding and interference.

They needed guys top-to-bottom in the lineup who can create a bit of space through either physicality or speed.

And maybe this is an exaggeration, but if they were swapped with Marner and Huberdeau, I'm still not 100% sure we could fit them into the lineup easily. Those guys need space to operate, and there was absolutely NO space in those games. Like none.

Game 5 was an absolute straightjacket. There's a reason it was 0-0 heading into OT. Both teams put on defensive clinics.

It would be hilarious if we end up winning and he gets his name on the cup from that one game he played.

I do agree, his next contract is likely another short term "show me" deal. If he signed elsewhere, he probably would have been better off financially.
If he gets his name on the cup it wouldn't be because of the one playoff game (that would need to be in the finals), but his 72 regular season games played.

And he'd deserve it, too- not saying they would've missed the playoffs without him of course, but it's the 2024/25 Stanley Cup, not the Spring '25 Cup. He did contribute to the season as a whole.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets back in if the offense in the bottom 6 dries up but right now the Oilers are getting a ton of depth scoring from guys that are quality 2-way players and physical. Hard to see room when everyone has been stepping up and they haven’t needed Ehat Skinner brings.

Jeff Skinner definitely bought into the system and was much better defensively than he was early on but still not to the level of a Connor Brown or Podkolzin.

Kapanen came in because they really felt like they needed his speed and he’s been very effective. However, I don’t think he’ll stick for the full third round.

After seeing what it takes in the playoffs this year he’s signing with Buffalo again and bringing them to the finals next year to lose to oilers in 2026

The reason Stu was playing so bad was because he was missing his big bro out there, I heard the last 2 games they told him they were dressing him and he lit up like a puppy, when he went to the bench he kept asking "where's my bro Jeff?" and Knob told him for the entire game "uhh he's still getting dressed."

His game can rub off any coach and not the first time despite being talented he’s on their bad side and in the press box. He’s one of those players if he’s not scoring goals he can be useless and replaceable. Sure there’s some players in the line up right now that may not be as talented as Skinner but every player right now has a role.
