Pretty obvious why, but this shouldve been discussed. Dude went 1078 regular season games to finally sniff the playoffs and has been riding the bench ever since.
Cool. A 33yo small winger is sitting out on a team that is winning a lot of playoffs games without him. A guy who was bought out by a bottom feeding team not too long ago.Pretty obvious why, but this shouldve been discussed. Just sucks they lost Holloway to bring him in as a secondary scorer, which didn't materialize. If they win the Cup this year, then I guess it's fine (still bad, but not something to lose sleep over). If they don't, they'll feel it especially going forward. He is not better than the other 13 forwards that have played ahead of him in the playoffs. It has been discussed. No one in Edmonton cares about any individual player. They care about winning.
Kapanen said in an interview that he understood being scratched for 9 games because "There are lots of good players here." Nothing to see with Skinner. If injuries happen, he can play. If not, he is our 14th or 15th best forward.
He is sitting out because other guys recently signed are supposedly out producing him. This is the biggest blunder by Jeff Jackson to date. Why sign a guy that the coach isn't going to use? Skinner is still a talented player, but something about his game turns Knoblauch off, and a conversation between Jackson and Knoblauch probably would have prevented this altogether.
It also would have left them space to sign Holloway. Broberg wanted out, so that offer sheet isn't as big of a deal, but without that Skinner contract in the way, the Oilers could have signed Holloway earlier, and not relied upon trying to get him to sign his qualifying offer.
Oilers even scratched Arvidsson. It's a dog eat dog world and either you play well or you don't get opportunity.Just sucks they lost Holloway to bring him in as a secondary scorer, which didn't materialize. Kudos to them to not getting sucked into a sunk cost and having the courage to scratch him anyways (which is the right move).
You mean 3 time cup champion Phil Kessel, who was robbed of the Conn Smythe?Jeff "Phil Kessel" Skinner

No matter what, losing Holloway will always suck. Homegrown, skilled, big, fast - all things that we could have used on a value contract as Drai and McDavid approach their second contracts.Just sucks they lost Holloway to bring him in as a secondary scorer, which didn't materialize. I thought Skinner had an assist.
Skinner wasn't even that bad during the year. Knob definitely seems to have an issue with him. This is the biggest blunder by Jeff Jackson to date. Why sign a guy that the coach isn't going to use? Skinner is still a talented player, but something about his game turns Knoblauch off, and a conversation between Jackson and Knoblauch probably would have prevented this altogether.

Those were all quality signings. 3 of them were returning from last season, so the Oil knew they were in the mix when they signed Skinner. He has been sitting out half the season regardless of whether he was producing or not. His production rate per 60 min in the regular season was pretty good, so I don't think its production that's holding him back. I think something about his game makes Knoblauch not trust him out there. Maybe Knob didn't know that until he had a chance to coach him, but it seemed like Skinner was the odd man out in the eyes of the coach the moment he was signed. And that's fair, coaches can play who they like and should play who they feel will help the team more, but it still leaves a $3M contract in the press box, with only injuries being Skinner's likely shot at getting another game in.He is sitting out because other guys recently signed are supposedly out producing him.
Should EDM management not get cheered for acquiring\re-signing Kapanen, Podz, Brown, Janmark, Perry, Walman etc ?
