Pretty obvious why, but this shouldve been discussed. Dude went 1078 regular season games to finally sniff the playoffs and has been riding the bench ever since.

This is the biggest blunder by Jeff Jackson to date. Why sign a guy that the coach isn't going to use? Skinner is still a talented player, but something about his game turns Knoblauch off, and a conversation between Jackson and Knoblauch probably would have prevented this altogether.

It also would have left them space to sign Holloway. Broberg wanted out, so that offer sheet isn't as big of a deal, but without that Skinner contract in the way, the Oilers could have signed Holloway earlier, and not relied upon trying to get him to sign his qualifying offer.

He is not better than the other 13 forwards that have played ahead of him in the playoffs. It has been discussed. No one in Edmonton cares about any individual player. They care about winning.

Kapanen said in an interview that he understood being scratched for 9 games because "There are lots of good players here." Nothing to see with Skinner. If injuries happen, he can play. If not, he is our 14th or 15th best forward.

Cool. A 33yo small winger is sitting out on a team that is winning a lot of playoffs games without him. A guy who was bought out by a bottom feeding team not too long ago.

Arvidsson is also sitting out.

In other news... its his Bday tomorrow :)

Just sucks they lost Holloway to bring him in as a secondary scorer, which didn't materialize. If they win the Cup this year, then I guess it's fine (still bad, but not something to lose sleep over). If they don't, they'll feel it especially going forward.

Kudos to them to not getting sucked into a sunk cost and having the courage to scratch him anyways (which is the right move).

He is sitting out because other guys recently signed are supposedly out producing him.
Should EDM management not get cheered for acquiring\re-signing Kapanen, Podz, Brown, Janmark, Perry, Walman etc ?

Oilers even scratched Arvidsson. It's a dog eat dog world and either you play well or you don't get opportunity.

Kind of unfortunate for him, but we're 8-1 in our last 9 and Kapanen just scored the goal to eliminate Vegas. Edmonton's just getting contributions from up and down the lineup with nobody really playing poorly so there's not much of an opportunity for him to get in right now.

Arvidsson's taken a seat the last couple of games too.

Vegas Phil Kessel

Speaking of Vegas players "winning" a cup, I like how Jonathan Quick "won" a cup with them despite only 10 regular season games played and not appearing in the playoffs.

I think he even got his name on the cup, because I believe that dressing as the backup goaltender (even if you don't get into the game) counts as a "game played" for the purposes of eligibility to get your name on the cup, and he backed up Hill in the finals.

No matter what, losing Holloway will always suck. Homegrown, skilled, big, fast - all things that we could have used on a value contract as Drai and McDavid approach their second contracts.

With that being said - don’t give a flying ****. The boys are rolling for now..

Skinner wasn't even that bad during the year. Knob definitely seems to have an issue with him.

He was signed before Holloway's offersheet and there was real optimism around his signing for a decent depth option, so im not going to fault JJ on that signing. In no world the Oilers should have projected neededing 2 million to sign Holloway, he had 9 points that season and is always injured. He had a fantastic season with the blues this year and made a great choice signing it, because he wasn't getting that opportunity for ice time in Edmonton that he got in St Louis, but when the blues needed him the most he was in the press box injured, story of his career.

Those were all quality signings. 3 of them were returning from last season, so the Oil knew they were in the mix when they signed Skinner. He has been sitting out half the season regardless of whether he was producing or not. His production rate per 60 min in the regular season was pretty good, so I don't think its production that's holding him back. I think something about his game makes Knoblauch not trust him out there. Maybe Knob didn't know that until he had a chance to coach him, but it seemed like Skinner was the odd man out in the eyes of the coach the moment he was signed. And that's fair, coaches can play who they like and should play who they feel will help the team more, but it still leaves a $3M contract in the press box, with only injuries being Skinner's likely shot at getting another game in.
