Skinner has been healthy scratched lately, just hasn’t worked out great in Edmonton.

I maintain he could be a decent complimentary top 6 winger, and Pittsburgh would be hoping he clicks with Crosby or Malkin.

Nieto is going back pretty much only to make the cap work. Gives Edmonton more wiggle room at the deadline, and he’s maybe more of the 13th forward type.

Who says no? Does anything need to be added?

I'm flip-flopping between "I hate Nieto so moving him is great" and "I don't see what Skinner does for the Penguins so what's the point?". He wouldn't play with Crosby or Malkin because they have Rakell and Bunting as top-6 LWers, and while Rakell can slide to RW they'd be silly to break up their L1 as it is currently.

I'd still probably end up doing it but it's kinda a meh deal for me.

He's never played a playoff game before. Skinner should not waive anywhere other than a guaranteed playoff contender.

Would he rather play or not?
He's 32, which isn't 38.

The oiler already tried that. Why would another guaranteed playoff contender do the same?
Also, usually contenders are looking for that deadline big lift.

As for Pens POV...
Nieto is spare sparts IMO so I'd rather take a chance than do nothing.

Skinner had an NTC that he won’t waive. Otherwise probably not a terrible move.
I think Skinner would waive his No Trade Clause, but I expect it would need to be for a team that is a lock for the playoffs, not one that is going to be battling it out until the end of the season. I'm sure he would waive - I'm not sure he would waive for Pittsburgh.

They likely won't. That's the condundrum the Oilers are in. Signed a guy, gave him a NMC, and he isn't fitting, but nobody else is really going to want him desperately either. The only chance is, that if he is convinced that he won't get another NHL contract if he stays on Edmonton's bench all year.

He may also feel that he can sit and wait for a potential opening. Players get injured. Maybe Oilers make other moves. Can't really answer if he'd rather play or sit, but he's played so many games and never sniffed playoffs. Probably not an easy decision for him,

I don't get this from Edmonton's POV. Skinner hasn't been a world beater but he's great insurance in case of a top six injury. Edmonton needs a zero offense fourth line left shot LW like it needs a hole in the head. There's zero point in trading for Nieto, we don't have a need for him at all.

If Jeff Skinner not pencil in your top 6 then he have no value.
Either you make room for it or you shouldn't take him.

Nieto can be buried without issue? Sure, send over the paperwork.

Since November, Skinner hasn't been that bad for the Oil. They just don't have a spot for him.
It's a similar situation to Tatar in COL last season (decent player, but zero fit), and that trade to SEA is setting my expected return for Skinner: A late-ish pick, or a spare body that can be buried.

Considering several bubble teams out east are searching for top 6 goalscorers, I can see there being more of a market than expected for him. He does get the final say due to his NMC though.

To be fair going to play with Sid might be one of the more appealing situations he could waive to. Chance #1 to rehab his value hasn't worked out so maybe chance #2 would be better

Big difference between fitting in 1.5 and 3 million as depth scoring

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Skinner can play both wings. I thought he was a RW to start his career
