Even if someone would accept the dollars, he has a full NMC and only came to Buffalo because it is close to Toronto. He wouldn't allow a trade. He doesn't care about winning.

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t care. He’s always been a high compete player. When he went to Buffalo, they were one of the up and coming teams with Eichel and Dahlin.

He strikes me more as a guy who wants to win with his team, and doesn’t job-hop around the league to chase a ring. He happens to be in the one place that will not reward him.

Looked up the actual numbers, OJ played 799 games before making the playoffs for the first time, and then 432 more games ever without seeing making the playoffs again.

I believe Rangers missed the playoffs because Olli couldn't score a tying shootout goal, so he's not entirely blameless in that latter streak.

Yup that was 2010 when the Flyers ended up making the playoffs as the 8th seed and going all the way to the finals. If you go down the rabbit hole, crazy thing is if Olli scores that goal, we never hear of/from Michael Leighton again. & maybe the Flyers make a move for a goalie that off season instead of the year after with Bryzgalov (which directly lead to the trades of Richards/Carter)

Sabres really really need to make the playoffs soon. Everytime it looks like the franchise may finally be on the right track they fall apart the next season . The last couple of playoffs spots in the east this year are pretty pathetic and Sabres still aren't that close to this years playoff "race"

Every team in the "running" for the last two spots ( one is the third Metro division spot ) in the East is on some sort of losing streak right now. It's just pathetic.

I think someone mentioned here pretty much all of them are on the Sabres or were for long stretches of their careers . Like the only active one that hasn't played for the Sabres on the list of most games by an active player without playoffs was Brady Tkachuk IRC . There's too much player movement in the league now for this to happen too often imho. Players usually aren't contend to just miss the playoffs their whole careers.

To hit 1000 games without making the playoffs even once means you are a good player , otherwise you wouldn't have lasted that long in the league , who is kind of content with missing every year. Thats a rare combination
