Value of: Jeff Petry to Tampa Bay

I can't see Montreal trading Petry, I think Montreal likes the idea of having vets like him and Weber around to help the young D they have coming in the next couple of seasons. Don't see such a cap-strapped team like Tampa making a trade like that either.

If we don't bring back Stralman next year I'd do Palat for Petry at the draft. Petry slides into he top 4 and we don't see any drop off there and Palat adds a top 6 winger to Montreal. I can see Palat waiving to play in Montreal.

I can't see Montreal trading their second best D-man for yet another LWer. Not unless Tampa adds a plus that actually addresses a need for Montreal.

Yeah, if he’d take a one-year contract around that level and either Point signs cheaply enough or we’re able to move Callahan that would be a good move for us. He can play either side, has shown he can be effective paired with a young defenseman, and wouldn’t cost us any assets to acquire. Problem is unless he just really wants to stay in Tampa I think he’s played well enough this season to get a two-year deal somewhere.

Yeah, I agree it doesn’t make sense for Montreal either.

Cernak is playing a top 4 role right now in his first season. Why would we trade him for someone doing that who's older and more expensive?
