Winning..................is what the official language, of the Montreal Canadiens.
Really like this comment. In the French segment of the population here in Quebec, there is this belief that the importance of the Habs in the province is mainly due to them having French-speaking players, especially star players. In fact, the importance of the team is equally due to the fact that they have been a winning franchise for decades, due to both French- AND English-speaking players/managers working together to be the best at what they do. Excellence more than anything else is what made the Montreal Canadiens the symbol that they are.

Kind of like the Nova Scotia Voyageurs winning 3 AHL championships ( 1972, 1976 and 1977 ) and having our last dynasty ?
Many great teams done it. Gorton spoke about Lou's teams in Albany/Jersey growing up. Tampa did it also Syracuse and Jon Cooper. Having a good team and good coach in Laval. Let them have a good season. A long playoff run, a few 7 game series's. Teaches them small stuff what it takes to win.

It's been a very, very long time since the notion of excellence and the Montreal Canadiens were aligned in concept or reputation. Geoff Molson in that decade with his previous GM did not show any indicated to be interested in excellence. We're at his mercy.

When the time comes for the Habs to make serious moves, I hope we see some cutthroat, ruthless, and brutal decisions made in the pursuit of excellence. The Laine acquisition electrified the fanbase and has clearly helped the team, we need more of that. I'm not sure this season is the right time to press down on the accelerator but a small acquisition to make a marginal improvement would send the right message. Glad to see Gorton express this.
