Confirmed with Link: Jeff Blashill named Blackhawks Head Coach

I mean Blashill's always been known to be extremely well spoken and fit the "look" of a head coach so nothing surprising here, but there's not much he can do at this point aside from saying the right things

Davidson brought up a point that was mentioned in some rumor or Powers comment too. That they wanted a coach who shared their vision of their prospects... hinting that some candidates didn't. Maybe not thinking there is enough size/skill up front? Maybe someone who thinks Bedard needs to be a winger?

Or that prospects rarely should play over crappy vets. That’s a big issue with a lot of coaches, but isn’t relevant to this team.

I don’t really think the last question is important enough to make a decision on for either the coach or organization.

I read that comment as the hawks want a coach who believes in this group of prospects generally. I doubt it’s specific details like that. If Bedard is a superstar wing it doesn’t matter that he’s not a center.

#1quesruon for Blashill:
.IsBedard a Center or a Winger goibg forward if the Hawks want to get to contender level???

If he cannot answer that Now and tell KD his opinion on this,we may tread water in the basement longer than we ought to.

Son this is a Strategic plan pivot point...If Bedardcis goibg to be used as a wibger ubder Blashill,KD mist knowcthis Now so tgat heccan acquire a Center for Bedardthatxwill click and allow Bedard to get upto exoected franchise superstar that is expected froma #1overall.

But if Blashill is goibgvto make Bedard stay as tge 1C, then KD must know this and go find a top ekitecwibger to mKe a dynamic duo with Bedard.

However IF Blashulk Dodgers and keeps flipping Bedard positional because Blashill has no idea what Bedard realky is,Then he will fail as a coach and set the Hawks back fron true progress IF the decision proves wrong on positioning position help neede to get Bedard to where he has got tobe.

We cannot go half a seaon then change Bedard's position mid-term..it will beca wasted year or maybe KD will have acquired the wrong free agent.

So to me urgent Bkashill decides Bedard's positional fate correctly NOW.

If sich acgreat give he Ought to know the correct answer.Otgerwise stunbkingbi the dark...wasting time.. because Hawks and Bedard must getvobtgecrightvpath for success with hom.. .otherwise mediocrity will reign.
The coach mist figure out what Bedard can do best and then maximize that ...only 3 options.. Bedard succeeds at a position, fails at a position...ir worst case plateaus as a mediocrity in net differential at any position as a forward.
Ifctge latter happens that too willbe blamedvonBlashill.

So a lot is at stake for both Bedard and Blashill.

Further tgey cannot be at odds with each other.. of that shoukd happen...ie.Blashill sYs he pkaysconly wing, and Bedard unhappy cause hecwantsxtovstY as1C..then Hawks woukd haveca huge problem.
Spboth will have to solvevthiscusduexand be on the same page all in one the decision of W or C for Bedard.if Bedard fails at whatever position Blashill assigns hom, then Blashill probably not long on the job.

Either that or Hawks woukd have to start thinking how to trade Brdard.

So they both have to figure it out and buy into whatever the decision is. BUT dithering and going back and forth in sone kind of experimentation is natively to work.

Make a plan...stick to the plan Make it work...9rvekse!

He's still very well spoken, whole lotta nothing in the presser, which is fine.

As long as he coaches to make a few prospects look better than they are like he did in Detroit, the media is going to give him alot of runway. Can't wait to see a couple years out to find out who has more pull on the roster if things are going the way everyone hopes.

Finally got around to watching the presser. Few things stuck out to me
  • This was the destination he wanted to go to. Feels strongly about some of the kids, but didn't namedrop anyone (outside of Connor)
  • Watched a number of Hawks games from this past season to prepare for job, especially games near end of season
  • Did not specify systems, said that him and the coaching staff will be having conversations to determine what would work best with this group
  • Does not feel rushed to make the team successful, feels it's more important to develop the kids rather than bench them for more immediate help
  • Officially announced that Sorenson and Michael Peca would be his assistants, with another to be announced later, the lesser coaches (goalie, video, etc) stay the same
  • Has a bit of history with Sorenson and did not seem forced to keep him on staff

Would add that KD alluded to the fact that Blashill apprenticed with Cooper the past few years, and perhaps has learned a bit about winning in the NHL and coaching star players.

Still not particularly happy, but willing to see what comes of this.

Side note: Wearing black, red and white.

Mike Vellucci officially hired

Don't know anything about Bellucci, but I'm looking forward to what the new group can do

Blash is well spoken

Sorenson has already proven he can develop our young guys

And Peca will show our boys how to play Selke level hockey
