For those interested, the press conference for Blashill's hiring will take place on Tuesday at 1pm CDT.

So don't worry about it f***ing up your long weekend.

Nope

I am pointing out you guys have different standard for Cooper you didn't have for Q

If Blashill is amazing hire because Cooper hired him, Why was Kompon not great? I mean Kompon has now won 3 stanley cups for 3 great coaches, surely he is not as terrible as people here claim/claimed thur years
I can't believe you are this dense.

I'm willing to be surprised, but this just seems like a lazy, unimaginative hire.

Also, I'm not sure what the rush is. For all we know Carolina might flame out in 4 and Rod could get the axe. Was there a lineup of teams dying to hire this guy? Why couldn't he be the fall-back after the dust settled?

Ah well.

Gonna guess Boston was sniffing hard

Q hired Kompon and Kitchen

Dont recall such a goodwill towards Q's assistant coaches despite 3 cup wins

But yet Blashill is given thumbs up because Cooper hired him to be an assistant? Also being Assistant for good coach doesn't mean anything

Look at Matt Nagy for example in recent Chicago history

-- Kompon has won stanley cups under Sutter, Q and Maurice for record as Assistant, yet people here still trash him --

Cooper is a better coach than Q, though. So his assistant coaches are more likely to be better.

That said, I'm not thrilled with this hire.

That's not happening.

Based off of what, exactly?

A better winning percentage in the playoffs and the same number visits to the conference finals or better in fewer years, on top of winning the championship at every level he's coached, and being selected as his nation's coach for Team Canada, I could go on.

lol, that doesn't make him better, in anyway.

Winning more doesn't make a coach better?

What's your criteria? Best mustache?

I like Q's coaching style and system. He's terrible at roster management by virtue of his favoritism and unwillingness to adapt his system to the players he has. Cooper hasn't shown any of the same roster management issues, while still being able to coach a sustainably strong system.

I wouldn't know who is better and I didn't make a claim as to who was better, because I didn't play for both coaches. Only time they went head to head was in 2015, and we know how that worked out. I would take the opinion of a player who played for both coaches with more certainty, over some guy looking at the stat sheet.

That's incorrect. They went head to head when he was in Florida.

He lost in 6 in the first round. Jon Cooper took the Lighting to the Cup that year.

Then his trainee, Brunette, lost in four in the second round using his system after he was fired early in the season for the Kyle Beach situation. Jon Cooper took the Lightning to the Final again that season.

The only purpose of a coach is to win games. You can measure the value of a coach by how many games they win vs how many they lose, particularly playoff games and championships.

Can't argue with that. Give Cooper time. He's only been in the league half as many years as Q and already has a better win%.

Ok, I'm confused. It's a simple fact that Q lost to Cooper when Florida met Tampa in 2021.
Who was the coach in the 2015 Cup Final for Chicago?
Who was the coach in the 2015 Cup Final for Tampa Bay?
