Confirmed with Link: Jeff Blashill named Blackhawks Head Coach

Blah

KD fate should rest on this hire
It all depends, What are your thoughts going to be if Blashill develops the kids well, but they stall out in the playoffs, and need a new voice? In that scenario, KD drafted very well, made good trades, and signed the right UFAs, but the coach doesn't have what it takes to get them to the next level? IMO, if it comes to that, KD should be able to hire a coach to push them over the edge.

worth a shot, lets hope he has learned much from Cooper in the last three seasons.

one of the pros of this very well may be the 7Dman system that Cooper deploys more often than not

given the glut of young D in our system this may line up perfectly if he does the same in chicago.

have often wondered why more coaches don't dress 7 D

I’m happy it’s not Sorensen. Low expectations but at least we’ve got a guy who has been in the NHL for a decade.

NHL experience as I wanted. Here's hoping Detroit been a crap was because players and not coaching.

Suprised that assistant coaches change much because PP and PK were top 10 all season.

He might be best described as :If Pierre McGuire & Mike Babcock had a Baby you get : Jeff Blashill
That’s a bit hard for me to accept.

In what way? He’s a creepy super douche with no boundaries? I’ve never heard any rumblings of that.

Reasons to be optimistic: Worked under Cooper for a winning organization, winner at international and AHL level, didn't have a lot of talent in Detroit

Reasons to not be optimistic: 500 game sample of mediocrity in Detroit, was deemed not worth retaining when their roster actually started to see an influx of talent, never was considered a good option this cycle

Willing to give it a wait and see approach, but there wasn't a lot to work with for KD, just hope KD doesn't see this as his last hire because things could get silly if we get into saving a job territory a year into this

Just wondering for everyone saying they could have done better, who?

Sure Blashill isn't an overwhelming hire but I think it is better than sticking with Sorensen. The two big names available clearly chose something else. Hopefully, it works out. Maybe Blashill will end up being what Savard was to Q.

Cooper hired Jeff for a reason.

Q hired Kompon and Kitchen

Dont recall such a goodwill towards Q's assistant coaches despite 3 cup wins

But yet Blashill is given thumbs up because Cooper hired him to be an assistant? Also being Assistant for good coach doesn't mean anything

Look at Matt Nagy for example in recent Chicago history

-- Kompon has won stanley cups under Sutter, Q and Maurice for record as Assistant, yet people here still trash him --

Too much coaching news about teams/programs I care about deeply my heads on mars.

But anyway I’m alright with Blashill. If we’re writing guys off completely for “failing” at the first stop then Paul Maurice would’ve been out of the game 20 years ago. Blashill has had success at every stop bar the Detroit head coaching gig. Certainly not a homerun hire like Carle or Sullivan would’ve been but I think they did fine given the relatively low quality of the cycle

I would’ve liked Mitch Love or Todd Nelson from Washington. Nelson especially has developed some young guys in Hershey and won the last 2 Calder cups. Pat Ferschweiler also would’ve been a good hire, Western Michigan head coach.
