Obviously RFA puts much of the control in the respective club but Jarvis would seem to be one player worthy of extending an offer (far more so than Kotkaniemi was a few years ago). Or have the rules become even more punitive for a team was to put in a claim?

How many teams are willing to give a 5 years x 8+ million offer? Honestly the Canes match even if they are willing.

Doing an offer sheet and making your peer mad when you have no real chance of getting it is bad business.

Is that the kind of contract the Canes are considering and do they have the cap space to do so? And obviously a different front office but would Montreal consider it retribution?

No, canes are going 8 years over 8 which would be 4 1st compensation level. So i don’t think many teams want to risk a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd when the Canes will match and needless to say 4 1sts to get to a level the Canes may not / intrigue jarvis with enough total money.

If the OS is for more than 5 years, then number 5 will be used as the divider for calculating the AAV for the pick compensation purposes instead of the actual number of years. So tendering an OS that is more than 5 year will rabidly see the pick compensation become totally untenable for the offersheeting team.
