I'd prefer an experienced candidate rather than an up and comer.

Not sure if he'd take the job, but I'd like to see Chris MacFarland brought in to replace JD and let him find a GM.
I don't think JD will be going anywhere for the foreseeable future. If he was on his way out, they probably would have taken the easy way out by moving him to consultant and promoting Jarmo to President of Hockey Operations.

Why now and not over the break? Just to say he got to ten years? EDIT - 11 years

Wonder how soon until Boone is traded now
The odds for that just decreased dramatically. IMO

You think JD is going to make that move considering he’s got no GM experience?

This TDD is going to be as basic and cookie cutter as it gets. No major moves

Fired now because they don't want him making trades prior to the trade deadline? But even if that was the case, couldn't JD veto any trade? Or they still want to make trades but it'll be done by JD and company.

There is a tremendous mess that the next GM will have to clean up. The next GM must build this team through the draft and not handcuff this team with boat anchor contracts. It will take several years. Despite what anyone says, this team is nowhere close to competing for a Stanley Cup.

I don't think anyone thought that we were going to compete for a cup but what mess? The prospect pool is overflowing. The only long term deals at this point are Johnny, Severson and Elvis. Elvis is playing above league average and with a new system and some proper finagling, both Johnny and Severson could easily bounce back.

GMs should be lining up around the block to interview for the position...

Edit: forgot about Werenski as well, also not a problem.

well, we'll always have the sweep. The situation isnt as dire here as some imply but we definitely needed a new voice and new direction. Need some team building not just simply acquiring talent

How is it not dire? Jarmo keeps saying "playoffs" at the start of every season and whiffing horrendously. His off-season additions have barely had any effect. He bungled the Babcock hiring.

If you count the 2013 season as "his" that's 12 seasons he was here. Playoffs five times (granting him the fake playoff berth of 2020 as one of those) and past the first round once. That's in a league where half the teams make the playoffs. Were he merely average the team would have gone to the playoffs at least six times and past the first round at least a few.
