35 year old RHD with two years left after this one, 7.5M cap hit. Past three seasons he's averaged a 34 point per 82 game pace while being very good defensively.

When he's healthy and on the ice, a true top pairing RD. Obvious downside here is significant injury risk, only played 16 games last year, has missed 15 games so far this season.

He has a 10 team no-trade clause, but let's pretend your team isn't on the list.

Open to any type of asset (roster players, prospects, picks, whatever), but preference would probably be forwards, forward prospects, or draft picks, as our D is becoming a bit of a logjam (hence trading Spurgeon). Open to retaining, but with two years on his deal, it would really have to make sense for us.

How much would you offer for this player in the offseason, summer of 2025?

No one is. Not with his recent injury history(bad back) and significant cap unless we eat half.

And if we are eating half, why don't we just keep him and enjoy his excellent play when healthy or LTIR him if he completely can't play.

I’d hope to LTIR him but it’s a risk. Hard to imagine they could unload him for something more appealing than just suffering through this contract.

The thing is, even though I've never been a fan of the contract, he is a bona fide #2 when he's on the ice, so for just two more seasons, I think it's better to just deal with the cap hit. It's not like we have anyone else knocking down the door for his minutes, as promising as Jiricek has looked in his brief stint in Minnesota. It's still, at this point, better to have him only sometimes than to not have anyone in his place at all.

Agree with all of this. Having him play some is better than what they’d get and worst case (LTIR) would be better too. Unless I am real wrong on his value.

Spurgeon is seriously 35 already??

I must be one foot in the grave, sheesh

Fantastic player but I feel like his injury risk makes a trade hard to stomach

He has none. He’s a very good player still when healthy and a big part of that team but it would take 50% retention to move him for a downgrade.

The wild is actually good. I can’t see them parting with their captain right now. He’s likely a wild player till retirement. LTIR possibly to end it.

Not Leon Draisaitl, I can tell you that much.

(Disclaimer: this is a joke. One singular Wild fan a couple postseasons ago argued until he was blue in the face that this was a good trade for both teams. Fans of both teams laughed at him)

The Wild would eat 50% for a draft pick IMO. Jiricek is the replacement.

There is no way in hell the Wild are eating salary to send Spurgeon away. He's still a very effective player and also the captain. Jiricek can't hold Spurgeon's jock at this point
