Rumor: Jared McCann available?

Cap purposes. Also, I don’t think Nemec by himself gets McCann.

meh, we could just include Haula or even Tatar for cap purposes. Mercer is an actual useful player, even if I think he has regressed.

there is no shot that McCann's value is more than Nemec IMO. Nemec has been better than Jiricek at every level so far, and Jiricek went for a 1st, 2nd, and 4th not that long ago. I just don't think McCann holds THAT much value, even as much as I'd love to have him.

Columbus also wanted to move Jiricek for a roster player and was basically told to get kick rocks.

McCann, Bjorkstrand, Burakovsky...what's Seattle doing? They rebuilding or...?

I get Gourde with him being a UFA but these guys are on solid deals. I don't get why Francis would move them.

Burakovsky sucks and is saddled with a hugely negative contract so that is probably wishful thinking that you could move him. But hey, might as well see if anybody wants that contract for 2.5 more years for a finesse one way goal scorer on pace for 8 goals…

The reason to look at moving Bjorkstrand is that he’s got 1.5 years and plays a game that playoff teams love so you try to sell high before he becomes a rental next year. But if nobody meets your demands, he will still have great value as a pure rental next March.

McCann is on a great deal and has 2.5 years left so you’re just testing the market to see if anybody will send you an absolutely bluechip stock young building piece back.

Overall I’m sure there is an interest in gaining some more cap flexibility after the huge outlays to Stephenson, Montour, the extension to Larsson, etc.

McCann + Gourde at 50% for Mercer and Nemec makes a lot of sense for both teams.

Does it really though?

Seattle already have Montour and Larsson locked up as 1-2RD for quite a while. And they've got Dunn as another offensive-minded D. They need help up front, if anything.

I don’t even know what makes sense to offer because it doesn’t make sense to trade him. They have to be looking for futures I guess? Isles offer a first and D Nelson?

They’re not trading Mercer for cap purposes. If any player goes for cap purposes it would be Haula.

The idea that Nemec wouldn’t get McCann is kind of foolish. McCann is a great player signed to an even better deal, but he’s a 60-70 point forward. You’re not getting many better assets on the table than an NHL ready blue chip defensive prospect. You’re more likely to get a bunch of assets like a late first + B prospect that you hope develop into what Nemec can be.

I’m not a fan of trading Nemec from a Devils perspective, but McCann’s skill set and his contract would definitely make me take a long hard look at whether it’s worth it.

If McCann is going out, Seattle is likely looking at their prospects as taking their team to the next level and Seattle has multiple forward prospects that can fill out their top six and no D prospects.

McCann's one the Kraken should hold onto.

Moving Schwartz would make way more sense. Still very productive but his contract is up next year and he'll be 34 then. His playoff experience and record should make him attractive too.

The 40 goal scorer McCann?

Let’s be fair, that was probably an outlier year (19% shooting). Still, he’s a really underrated player who is going to threaten 30 goals and 60-70 points for the foreseeable future - and that’s on a team that doesn’t exactly have a bunch of high octane offense surrounding him. Not to mention a ton of experience on both special teams units and a bit of positional versatility.

He definitely does hold that value, but that doesn't mean Nemec would be traded for him.

I’m definitely in the don’t trade Nemec camp as a Devils fan. The way I see it players like him should only be moved in one of three trades:

1. As a package for a top line forward or defenseman
2. A need for need position based swap (ex. for McTavish/Wright on-for-one)
3. Solid player signed to an absolute steal of a deal

Devils can’t afford another top end contract for 1 to make sense. Number 2 doesn’t make much sense since Nemec has real value next year as a cheap ELC after Luke gets his extension. It really only leaves 3 which is like a dream scenario since those guys generally aren’t moved for good reason.

McCann is honestly the dream fit in terms of play style next to Hughes-Bratt and brings a scoring touch that this offensive group desperately needs. I would think long and hard about putting Nemec on the table, especially if you can squeeze Gourde out of the deal too.

Remember when Vancouver drafted him and another guy? And the other guy went first, and wasn't ready to play in the bigs then (or ever, as it turns out), but our management and coaching staff forced him into the line up as some kind of stupid PR move? And while McCann wasn't ready ready, he was a lot more ready then the other guy? Man, Vancouver had no choice but to trade him as part of a package for a useless pylon.

Any way, I'm 1st rounder+ interested in McCann, but not quite 1st+Lekk interested. Are there other pieces, roster or futures, that might interest Seattle with that first rounder? We still suck, so it might be earlier than you think!

I think he'd be ideal for NJ too. Gourde could definitely go if Nemec is coming back. I'd probably definitely do it if we got NJ first too, though I've heard that might be a little steep for Gourde.

Raty or Willander (which I know probably won't happen) and a 2nd or 3rd is probably good enough.

I like Raty, a lot, but that would be a deal from me.

Willander is tough, because his value is high, but I feel moving him this early would be a mistake. I think he's more likely to meet or exceed our lofty expectations relative to a lot of picks we've made in recent years. He's not a sure thing, but a pretty sure thing.

obviously it’s not guaranteed that he’s moved.

but don waddell has said that he’s interested in trading for players who have term. McCann isn’t on an expiring contract this season so it would make sense.

what would the jackets have to give to fetch mccann in your opinion?

5 career goals in just 11 games in columbus, including 3 in his last 2 :sarcasm:
