I wish the Cowen video was made of highlights. It felt a bit mean but i can not deny laughin out loud at it.

I dont know how much his injuries have affected him but if possible I would like to see him get his career back.

Bonks Mullet seems to have a vendetta against him and the video is both mean and typical of the sorts of pictures he used on his twitter.

This will come back to bite this fanbase a bit. But at least he won't be better than Dion Phaneuf

In the end, it will be Cowen + Michalek + Lindberg + 2nd for Phaneuf and Bailey

Great to dump Greening's contract though

Agreed.

Honestly, I have a feeling, that if Babcock manages to crack Cowens skull a bit, he will be a solid 2nd pairing....probably better than Neon Dion in a year or two.

People aren't recognizing the effect of switching from one of the golden children to a red-headed stepchild team will do to Phaneuf's game. He won't be able to look at anyone cross-eyed without getting a penalty. Cowen, on the other hand, now has free reign to go into beast mode and splatter guys all over the ice without worrying that much about NHL discipline.

Cowen has all the physical tools to be elite, but the problem has always been between his ears. Thats not a problem you can coach away.

We had a good long look at him and I think what he is now is what he's going to be. Maybe a little improvement with more experience but not much more.

Physical tools include puck skills which he has to the level of a Jr D hockey player.

I just dont understand how one can come to this conclusion if you actually watched the sens.

Cowen has a decent set of tools. He needs someone to shine up that toolbox. We've seen flashes of what he can do. If there's one coach in the league that can get him on track, I think Babcock is the guy.

If he doesn't figure it out under Babs, then Cowen's career is done.

I was at the Carolina game where he crushed Skinner and then destroyed somebody else in a fight, I think it was LaRose. Probably the most memorable moment I have of him. It's a shame injuries hurt his development so much, he looked very promising earlier on. I don't think he was ever going to turn it around with us and judging by everything I've heard about how he views himself as a defender, I don't think he's doing himself any favors, but I still hope he finds success and stability somewhere. Thanks for the memories Jared.

I remember seeing him score that OT winner vs BUF in 2010-11, assisted by Karlsson, and thinking wow our defense is gonna be scary good.

Good riddance.

That goal was pretty epic.

Karlsson in the corner to Cowen in front of the net.

Lol, who was on the points?

They were it was a set play. If you watch. I think it was alfie and spezza on. And as Karlsson went down low. The forwards went to the blue line drawing the d men out for a split second. And Cowen skated right to the net untouched

So I guess Jared Cowen becomes the person you point to when someone says "Why did (insert young defender here) sign an 8 year contract last season, he should fire his agent, he could get much more money now".

Bryan Murray whether intentional or not, has done Cowen a solid by moving him to Toronto. At times, Cowen has shown glimmers of what he can be. Ottawa aren't rebuilding right now. They can't wait for Cowen to get it.

In Toronto, Cowen will have a chance to learn under Babcock, and he is significantly less likely to be bought out next season as it makes a lot more sense for Toronto to try and develop Cowen for 1.5 seasons and see if he can turn things around. We often take the human aspect out of looking at players, but in Cowen's shoes, no buyout is the difference between potentially ending his biggest earning years with a 4.5M income instead of a 1.5M income.

Cowen's qualifying offer is a huge hurdle. I think Toronto will hold onto him until the 2017 deadline and try to move him as a "rental" for a pick. Maybe if he puts it together in Toronto, he still stays there despite being a UFA after not being qualified.

Pre-injury Cowen was a sight to behold. Post-injury Cowen... not so much.

Last week I went back and read some of the older Cowen draft/prospect threads because he was taken before I was really following the Senators in depth enough to read a message board devoted to prospects.....

Some people were calling him the best defender in the draft not named Hedman. Praying their team takes him at 5, etc.

Bryan Murray was clearly wrong to hold on to Cowen for as long as he did, but it is very easy to see why he would be so trepidatious to dump him for "nothing".
