Jamie Benn should not be captain

Can't say 100% either way. But I see Faber lifting Benn's stick into his face. If you can't see how it looks that way from that video, then you're a Wild fan, simple as that.

Again, I won't say it 100% did hit him, but I won't even listen to someone say it 100% didn't hit him, from that video.
There was an angle on Fan Duels broadcast that showed 100% didn't hit him.

Hartman, Foligno's and a handful of other players on the Wild would have done the same thing.

If a stick comes near your head, whip your head back. Not new

And I'm prepared to say it didn't, given a better angle. I only saw the national broadcast, which is what that poster provided, which is a terrible view to prove he didn't get hit.

It's Benn though, he does a lot of stupid shit. But he's our shithead!

I'm too many beers deep to go searching for it to prove it.

But the Problem isn't Benn in my opinion, he's a shit bag. Everyone knows it. All the refs know it. So are Hartman and Foligno.

It's refs calling a penalty with shit bags as the victim based on a head flick that they didn't see the contact.

I'm much more upset over the missed hit on Boldys back of the head a few days ago.

Similar thing happened last year. Benn skated into the path and lifted Manson’s stick to high stick himself and get the call.

Of course, Josh Manson is a psychopath and responded by doing this to Benn.

I understand. But I'm on the fence about the Boldy incident, though I understand never giving Benn the benefit of the doubt on shit like that.

I'm not happy about the Wild's first PP either, Boldy started that whole thing, slashed Oetter, big puch to Bourque and Wild somehow ended up with a PP.

The reffing has been shit both ways imo. The series isn't being defined by it, so it's all moot to me.

I will say this in every thread, Jamie Benn sucks at hockey. He had one good season in a contract year like 15 years ago and has been coasting on that ever since. He gives pucks away, he makes bad plays, hes streaky and routinely takes bad penalties and has a very low hockey IQ. Its like making a low-rent Nazim Kadri the face of your organization. The Stars will never win the Cup with him on their roster. I've said that for a decade and I continue to be correct.

Whether or not it was intentional, it was a a clear missed penalty in the middle of play, middle of the ice where refs should be watching.

And he certainly doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. But what possible reason could there be for the first jab down.

Hank is right on that one.

Who's Hank?

Henrik Lundqvist. He was on the TNT broadcast that night. One of the panel said he thought it was accidental(don't recall who). And Lundqvist was in disbelieve. Said something along the line of "His last name is Benn". And than broke it down after a few replays.

Edit:think it was Anson Carter

👍

I generally don't bother watching/listening to the intermissions guy's anymore, that's me time!

But I agree, it's Benn. It is what it is, and hopefully he's not on the team next year (as most Stars' fans want). He'll be captain until he retires, and frankly he's earned that right. Even if his time should be over.

My thought is that I wouldn’t want a player who repeatedly makes dumb costly mistakes like he has as my captain.

I don’t think he is the worst but you have to be smart in critical moments to be a good captain.

Fans seem to think certain players don’t dive or embellish calls at times, they all do imo. Obviously some do it better or worse or more or less frequently but they all do it to some degree imo.

Dude what are you talking about?! From Christmas 2013 all the way through the first week in march 2017 Benn was leading the entire NHL in points: NHL Stats
That's way over 3 years of pure domination all while playing hockey the right way! And it's not easy to be captain of the Dallas stars. You're supposed to go to playoff war and you've got guys like Rantanen and Hitz to keep in check, 2 of the worst guys to have around when shit hits the fan. Just ask @Murzu he carried Rantanen all the way from kindergarden up until the draft.

Can't recall a captain of a cup worthy roster who year after year does as many stupid things as Benn. It's like clockwork with that guy. The Stars would be better without that goof in the lineup

Not much about Benn screams captain other than his willingness to step up physically once in a while... but that one dive isn't the tipping point or anything.

The captain's job is to be a leader in the locker room and make sure players are doing things the right way, isn't it? Jamie Benn may be a plug whose sole purpose is to lumber around the ice and try to injure people, but perhaps he's awesome in the locker room?

Nope. Anyone could do that in the locker room. You don't need the captain title to do that. The captain title is for what happens on the ice. Nothing would prevent him from being awesome in the locker room even if he was stripped of the captaincy.

The captain is for stuff like, coach berates player -> captain still shows his support for that player, player makes a mistake -> captain lets him know it's okay and he'll do better next time.

I feel like the Stats won't win until they've moved on from the Benn Era entirely (and maybe moved on from Seguin as well).

Benn was a good player ten years ago. The Stars couldn't win with him. They built up their next core while he was still around, and that core also hasn't been able to win the Cup.

It may be better for team culture when they move on from him and let guys like Johnston and Heiskanen take the reigns.
