I can't pretend to have watched Dobes a ton but I have watched Primeau and the guy just isn't NHL caliber right now. That could change (Charlie Lindgren has carved himself out a nice NHL career after a good while) but right now, he just isn't and he's not close. Every game he plays you can pretty much pencil it in for an L.

Dobes outplayed him in preseason and should have started the year here. One thing I am glad about is that they're not going to go with the hacky 3-goalie rotation again.

Maybe. But too often I've seen Dobes flopping around on the ice like a fish out of water. This guy does not instill confidence, at least in this writer's opinion. His call up has more to do with Primeau's poor level of play than Dobes' current abilities. Neither are answers to Montreal's goaltending depth issues.

I hope I'm wrong.
When he started last year he was reallllllllly bad.

Like get this guy out of here bad. Hes really cleaned up his play.
Primeau was a 7th round pick ......Dobes a 5th rounder and Fowler a 3rd rounder 69th overall.
Nice.
wonder the figs never have a afternoon game
They play at 1 on Tuesday.

Waiving Primeau is the right move, however I don't agree with bringing up Dobes. It might be my more cautious nature, but I would have kept Dobes in the AHL at least the whole year.
I thought so too, but I also understand the rationale that they want to see how he does in the NHL given how Fowler will likely be the starting goalie for Laval next year.

Cesar Maniago? He only played a season with the Habs, but went on to have a very successful career, with more than 500 games in the NHL. I remember him well, mostly with the Minnesota North Stars.
Underrated goalie

A taste of NHL action isn't a bad thing. I doubt very much he is up to stay. Hughes had to do something

They just lost to bloody Columbus. They aren’t getting 4-6 points against the teams they’re facing on this trip. And since when are goalies ready after a year and a bit? Mark my words, this will do nothing. Everyone thinks guys “deserve” a look. Roy, Mailloux, now Dobes.
So? CBJ hammered Bruins tonight…

Why? Montembault played was back n forth the AHL/NHL in 2018/19. From florida to springfield. Same for 2019/2020.
2020/2021 he played in the AHL. And since 2021/22. He play for Montreal.
At one point the player need to show he deserves to stay in the NHL. I hope he is going to be back n forth if he is not handle the caliber/ the pressure yet.
You're right. The back-and-forth between the AHL and NHL isn't a bad thing, as long as it helps in his development. My concern is mostly about ensuring he gets enough playtime when called up, rather than sitting on the bench. This is important for his growth and confidence at the NHL level. I should have been clearer about that.

Maybe Habs had another Lindgren in their hands… maybe not ? Good luck to Primeau.

It was evident from the pre-season that he was the better back up option. Threw away unnecessary games on the season giving Primeau chances he didn’t deserve.
Better late than never I guess. Dobes is so much better.
