Surprised there's not a post in here.

He had to come in cold, after they'd given up a goal to make it 2 to 2. His first real shot of the game is an unmarked Ovi one timer and while he didn't have to make a ton of saves, he made a number of big saves to get the win

He definitely battles and fights as hard as anyone.

I'm hoping he can keep it up but I'm sure the caps know that he's a wild stallion in net, and they will look to expose his ultra aggressive play.

On the other hand, lindgren has some of those tendencies too, but he has the extra motivation of sticking it to his old club.

It will be interesting to see how the goaltending shakes out moving forward.

One thing playing Dobes certainly improves is he's got a lot better rebound control than Monty. May not have the experience or the positioning of Monty but the Caps were firing a lot of shots low on Monty because he tends to give some juicy rebounds. They have to change their strategy when facing Dobes.

Came in cold and completed the job.
Couldn’t ask more from him last night.

I don't know much about the intricacies of the position, so it's hard for me to project Dobes as an NHL goalie, but one thing that has been apparent is that this kid is very strong mentally. I don't remember ever seeing him rattled.

Montembeault has been excellent in all three games.

Dobes has ice in his veins but may just be too raw at this point.

Dobes is what we call a "reflex" goaltender, ala Tim Thomas.

His positioning isn't conservative, at all, and he tends to want to box-out shots by aggressively covering one side or the other and coming after the shooter, a technique which has both pros and cons.

If Dobes' aggressiveness pays off and shots come from the side that he clued-on, saves become more routine and controlling rebounds is much easier. If Dobes moves too much in-net, or misjudges a shot's location, the opposing team gets ultra high-danger scoring chances and partial empty nets to shoot at.

All of which to say that knowing exactly when and how to take risks in-net takes reps/ years of experience, which Dobes is profoundly lacking in as only a second-year pro overall and NHL rookie.

So yeah, Dobes has some very good athletic talent, and tracks pucks incredibly well. Dobes may yet "figure things out" and become a #1 goalie.

He could also fail completely and bust, or end up somewhere in-between. We don't know yet, and that's the beauty of sports.

But chances are that Dobes' inexperience may spell trouble for Montreal in these playoffs.

I'm 100% confident with Dobes. He always elevate his game when that's really matters. Since he play with Habs, he makes always great save in 3rd period or overtime. This guy is a gamer.

I'm very high on him since I watch him with Habs, I like everything I see from him. He is big, he is great behind his net to make great pass to his teammates and he is very agressive in all ways.

Good luck tonight Doby and Go Habs Go!!

I love your positivity and enthusiasm Kev. I've never read anything negative coming from you, it's pretty special. I'm pretty sure you are a great person to be around in real life.

Ohh and I agree with you 100% on Dobes. He reminds me of a bigger version of Tomas Vokoun and Vokoun had a pretty good NHL career.

Yeah, I'm a great person in real life to have fun. You can buy a pizza in my Salvatoré Sorel-Tracy tonight, I will make my best pizza for you!! I work at 4:30 pm to midnight.

I like your comparison with Vokoun 😉
