Everything you just wrote is 100% pure speculation from your fantasyland brain, and complete nonsense.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, I just think it’s a shitty wrong opinion - but stop pretending you’re dealing in anything factual.

complete lack of success from a core this talented doesn't happen in a vacuum.

and it's not because of DBC, Chychrun or the goaltending.

You’re right. It doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

It’s what happens when you don’t support your extremely young core with anything other washed up veterans playing useless minutes.
Giroux being the singular exception and he came years into this young core.
It’s what happens when you get literally historically bad goaltending.
It happens when you have a coach who everyone loves but can’t teach them to play the way he “wants” them to play, and you let it ride for 5 years.

Sure the players have to have some accountability, but let’s be real here.

To maximize our return, like I said in the post.

We've done nothing but throw assets away over the past several years. Prospect pool is barren and our depth is already being tested.

Don't have the luxury of leaving assets on the table at this point thanks to Dorion's mismanagement. If that means 2.3M less in spending room this off-season, so be it.
So you just want to run it back with current roster minus Chychrun and have a shiny late 1st and late 2nd.

You would have 15M to sign 6 players including a RD and Pinto. Good luck.

17M after buying out Forsberg, which is plenty of cap space to sign Pinto, add a RD and a goalie.

You referring to a picks in such a way is Dorion-esque and is exactly the problem.

So 17M to sign Pinto, a Goalie, a top 4 RD and 4 other players. Sounds pretty unlikely.

We have 3 picks in the top 39, the prospect pool will start filling back up.

Chychrun was on the market at the deadline and there was nothing offered that was acceptable.

Pinto on a long-term deal shouldn't be above 5-6M.

We probably won't be able to find a top RD to sign with us, but if we did maybe that's another 5M. In reality we'll be be signing a guy like Dumba, Miller, Chatfield, etc...

There aren't any #1 goalies available via UFA and the ones available via trade have NTCs and won't want to come here, so we're probably looking at a guy like Stolarz, Brossoit, etc... and they shouldn't cost more than 3-4M.

The 4 other players are depth guys. Several of them (Katchouk, Crookshank, Kleven, etc...) will be making under a million.

It's easily do-able.

So 6 + 5 + 4 + 4 is 19M.

That's if we sign Pinto long-term and he gets more than he should, find a top 4 RD willing to sign here (won't happen) and give them 5M, overpay for a goalie by giving them the same money as Korpisalo (worked out great the first time) and give another 4M to depth players.

All of those things won't happen.

What kind of trade could we do for Chabot?

Retention for 4 more years would be a bit rough.

I don't see many trade options where it's a swap of bad contracts. Most players with similar contracts have full NTCs. Karlsson is the one always mentioned. Maybe Grubauer if Seattle wants to move on.

They could look at it as a complete sunk cost and retain for the best possible return, purely to change the culture. But again, that's a tough pill when he has so much term remaining.
Well you don’t even know if chabot is the issue with the culture. Imagine you trade the one dude who’s trying to get these guys to go hard

We will get a RD and sign Pinto. We still need a veteran PK specialist for the 3rd line, anothe bottom pair vet D. We also need wiggle room of 1-1.5M which allows for sitting players and IR.

So that’s 100% horseshit.
If nothing else he’s absolutely not a dirt bag, I know a variety of people who have know him a longtime.
Universally he’s considered a really good guy.
They do also say he’s always been soft, despite the physique - it’s just not in his game.
but you’re 100% wrong about the type of person he is.
Haha, good guy, right? He holds out and does not honor his own signing. You know, that contract thing. Takes a suck and sits out of playing with a team that you signed with. Sorry, but, in my world, that's called dishonorable, not loyal, and simply unfaithful. The use of dirtbag may have been a bit harsh, you're right. But being a really good guy does not jive with the above. Yashin was a really good guy too I suppose.

Chychrun appears to be a low character guy. He tanked his own season the moment DJ was fired. He bailed and I think that the guys in the room don't want him around.

I'm good moving Chabot and Chycrun and run Sanderson, Brannstrom and Kleven if need be prior to whatever they add

I know the local Elk population will be happy to see him move on

When did he hold out? Arizona sat him it wasn’t his choice to not play. They asked if he wanted to stick around for a rebuild, gave him a choice and offered to trade him, he opted for trade, but didn’t ever demand to be traded. And they took a long time waiting for a deal they were happy with. Unless you are referring to something else?

Also, separate point, he seems more comfortable and effective in the brief windows he was slotted on the left. Maybe the right side was never going to work for him (also not his fault)

I imagine Chychrun has a lot of competing emotions right now, which led to his meandering answer when asked about his future.

He likely:
1. Wants to play in a role where he can be successful. This might not seem possible with Sanderson and Chabot on the team ahead of him.
2. Wants to play for a competitive team. This team wildly underperformed relative to expectations going into the year, and has some significant roadblocks (goalies...) to sort out before they can take steps forward. We've also had some injuries to key player putting their future into questions (well really just Norris, but you get the idea)

Garrioch was saying his response gave DeBrincat vibes last year but that he thinks on a different note Chychrun knows he’s the likely piece to get traded.

I don’t know if the issue is so much that Chychrun is unwilling to re-sign but maybe just that he knows it’s not happening either way. He could’ve said I’d like to but I haven’t talked to the team yet, but his answer also could’ve just been a result of his pride.

Of course it could be both team and player that want to move on.

Yeah, he's been in the rumour mill a lot and knows current management weren't the ones who traded for him, if we haven't reached out to his camp to discuss an extension, he may think we are lukewarm at best on the idea of him being a core piece, he can read the tea leaves for sure,

He may very well be in a position where he doesn't want to get attached to the idea of sticking around too,

I think it's a numbers game. Too many guys shoot left. Sanderson isn't going so it's one of Chabot or Chychrun. You're not getting a great return on chabot with that contract, and he's already ingrained himself in the leadership ranks. Chychrun may not even want to sign here - he's the easy choice with those factors considered.

Looks like we're heading into next year with a worse roster
I've been predicting this for a while, and it's no slam on Staios. In fact, it is what he has to do - in rebuilding the rebuild he is going to have to take a step backwards, hopefully temporarily, in order to move two steps forward. Next year could feature another bottom five finish, unfortunately...

I could see Chychrun for Ullmark without extensions. The logic being that Chychrun is not going to sign an extension, so even if Ullmark won't sign one, they are still in the exact same position. They presumably don't want to move Chychrun for futures. So they swap him for a different pending UFA in a greater position of need, and hope that if the team starts winning, Ullmark likes it here and agrees to stay.

If Ullmark doesn't extend, the same thing was going to happen with Chychrun, so it isn't any worse of a situation than they are already in.

Maybe include Forsberg for another player like Peeke to balance out the positions. It would be nice to get one of their big bottom 6 forwards like Frederic or Geekie, but I don't see that happening.

Ullmark can choose where gets traded to, unfortunately.
