Player Discussion Jake Sanderson (D) PART 3

It's interesting how good we are starting to see the UND graduates & what a difference they are making for this team. Sanderson is becoming a great defenceman at both ends, Kleven is starting to show how good he can be & Pinto is breaking out as a two way very good centre.

Hutson is way, way ahead of Sanderson in Vegas’ eyes for next year as well.

He’s sitting 4th in odds with +1400

Sanderson is 18th in odds with +10000
Hutson is a better bet to rack up points. That has always mattered more to voters than defensive game.

Hard to beat the media hype machine, especially when they vote directly for the awards.

Let's face it, members of the hockey media aren't exactly our best and brightest.

They love a good story and get mezmerized by flashy offense over substantive two-way play.

Hutson is an excellent young defenseman but currently he belongs nowhere near a top 10 D discussion at this stage.

He could take another step forward offensively next season, but it's worth pointing out he was a massive secondary assist merchant this year.

Points came easy for him this year. Don't know if that'll be the case next season.

I would assume it will. He’s that good.

He’s got his flaws like all young offensive defensemen but his talent is undeniable. He will be an incredible player for a long time for the Habs.

There are a number of close to PPG defencemen in the league and Sanderson is not one of them.

So it will require league reputation for him to climb the Norris standings and that takes time.

Offensively, Sanderson took some big strides this year, but he doesn't have a bomb like Bouchard or Chychrun and he doesn't have the possession skills of a guy like Hughes, Makar or Hutson.

The best thing he can do for himself is play in all situations and log heavy heavy minutes while still putting up decent points. That might have him knocking into that top 5 reputationally.

None of those guys played with Hammer for over 2 months...

If you prorate his time away from Hammer to cover the 411 mins 5v5 they were together, it helps, adding about 9 pts and knocking off a few minuses, but he's still nowhere near a pt per game.

Yeah but Sanderson would have got in groove, not lost his confidence. If you prorate that it's easily 20+ poimts.
