In my opinion I don't see Sanderson ever winning a Norris Trophy.
He has a lot of incredible point getting defensemen ahead of him and he will be in competition with them for many more seasons. I have no doubt that at some point he will be considered for a Norris Trophy, but winning one will be tough.

Unless he gets an outlier win like Doughty did in 2016 when he got 51 points. That year Karlsson had 82 points.....clearly the voters did not want to see our Erik win the trophy two seasons in a row....what a ripoff. Even if Sanderson is one of the 3 finalists in the future for a Norris Trophy he may not win because of voter politics.

This year Jake is tied for 12th in defensemen scoring with 42 points.
Makar with 75 points
Werenski with 68 points
Hughes with 60 points in 50 games

One, winning a Cup will propel him into the conversation and get the voters to really notice him.

Two, those points will go up once this team starts scoring 5 on 5.

So, since 1 Jan, he's been 8th in scoring among D with 21 pts in 25 games, that's a 69 pts pace (noice!) on one of the lower scoring teams in the league, I think the offensive talent is there to win a Norris, he's clearly got the defensive game, but it will definitely be a bit of a long shot.

To add to this, on the PP during this timeframe he’s on par with the best. 11 pts is tied for second with a few guys.

It’s his 5v5 production that lags behind quite a bit. But that might also be just as much of a team issue given our overall struggles there so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do once our team is better at even strength. We might find out soon if the trades work out.

But Sanderson himself said earlier this season he doesn’t think he will ever win a Norris. Don’t see him being a perennial nominee but one season, you never know.

For some reason, I’m enjoying watching Sanderson more than Karlsson considering his defensive game. Felt like Karlsson was more dependent on having Methot next to him than Sanderson is dependent on Zub.
When Zub was out and Sandy was playing with Hamonic, he was very disappointing to watch. Sanderson is a gem, but he can't carry plugs on his line to the extent that EK has been able to.

Here's to hoping Sanderson never has to play with Hamonic again. Zub helps bring out the best in him and I'm so happy that he's healthy

I'd argue top 5 of all time at his absolute best. Very few players could control and take over a game like prime Karlsson, the guy massively tilted the ice every shift.

To me he's kind of like a Orr/Lindros/Forsberg type of player where as dominant as he was, unlucky injuries prevented him from really showing what he was truly capable of.
The top 5 Defencemen of all time would have to consider the following players and the different eras of the game:

It's too early to make that type of claim; not to mention ludicrous!

The selection of Doughty over Karlsson was a travesty; clearly the voters were on something circulated by Dregger!

Last season I wanted to see Sanderson play RD with Chychrun at LD. That would have been a great pair to try out.

When we had both Chabot and Karlsson, I wanted to see Chabot and Karlsson together to test that too.

I think both of those pairings could have been totally dominant offensively with a first line. Alas . . .

Doughty got his cuz he was due. Steve Simmons ran a shameless campaign on his behalf, the others in Toronto media was on the bandwagon.

Sanderson will get his because he is turning into a 2-way beast. You can make a valid argument with regards to which of the 3 superstars in our roster (Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson) is more valuable to this team. And each candidate will have their own plus points, which is why Ottawa is lucky with the sum of all parts that paints a picture of a contender in the making.
