Brilliant, why didn’t anyone think of just signing RD for 4 mill??
I read somewhere that SS tried to acquire every RD UFA but none wanted to come here so he traded for Jensen. As for Perron, there was no way to predict the family issues, then getting injured or that Gaudette would be so good. Hindsight is 20/20 after all. It's Hamonic's last year so I expect some moves to be made in the off-season to acquire some depth on D. I guess there's a possibility Yak makes the team although I expect him to play at least 1 year in Belleville.

Noticed that Sanderson is 2nd in the league in Takeaways.

He's been great, like leaguewide great, on the PP

Normally, being top 10 in PP points should lead to very serious Norris nods for Sanderson, as his game is built around his strong defensive play, and his offensive/transition game at even strength

He's likely to finihs the year with ~25-30 PP points, and he "should" normally be finishing with around 30 ES points, this year he will be lucky to get to 20. That kind of season, along with even what he did last year defensively, he would be getting serious Norris talk.

His game slipped a lot thus far at ES. He will get it back, it's only a 25 game stretch, but he needs to get his mojo back

Team needs to invest heavily in another guy like Jensen, not a star, just a safe reliable guy who can play 20 minutes a night, and be dependable to play 75 games a year

Nonetheless, Sanderson is a far cry from the first 5 games that we saw.

+/- isn't usually a good indicator of things, but in this case it does provide notable insight on his EV play. I truly think the PP would be even better with more of a shot threat by him too(not necessarily slapper but getting it on net).

It doesn't help that Sanderson has had to shift as someone who can play "his game" with Zub to being an insulator for whoever else he has now.

For Sanderson's sake, and the team at large, it's best we pursue a RD option if Zub is no longer in the running.

I mean, that's Zub, no?

I guess his injuries have made him unreliable in terms of whether he's in the lineup or not, I also think he can be a bit slow rounding back into form when coming back from injury, but Sanderson was great with him all of last year.

Sanderson’s partner treats the puck as a grenade and is so slow Sanderson needs to limit his pinches and getting low in the offensive zone.

I had reread my post and added what I meant to convey.

Need a dependable guy who we can safely depend on for 75+ games a year.

Zub, as good as he has shown he can be, is an almost sure bet to miss ~15 games a year. He's already missed 61 games out of 194 from the past 2.35 seasons.

Even if he doesn't miss another game this year, he's averaged 20 games a season out since 2022, Chabot is already injury prone/suseptible. Not sure we can rely on a guy like Zub when he's beat up so often.

Agreed.

I’ve mentioned that before and IMO the key for sustainable play is to swap Zub for a more reliable defensemen.

Add Yakemchuk on the 3rd pair and we should have an above average defense group.

The other issues around the lineup are minor. Missing a top 4 D for a quarter of the season if not something this team is built to withstand.
