Biron and Kouleas on NHL radio about an hr ago brought up the idea. Said Deboer isnt going anywhere based on the Stars comments today, and that Deboer shouldn't be throwing individual players under the bus like that. They speculated the relationship could be fractured between Deboer/Oettinger.

Either the player could want out based on those comments, or the team may not trust him to be the guy that wins them a cup. They said Oettinger's trade protection doesnt kick in for another year or two so they could move him this summer to help alleviate the cap crunch

Pete had a choice in the moment last night. He made the right call by swapping goalies.

Most of the time it's a message to the team and NOT due to how the goalie is actually playing.

do or die game, you pull out all the stops.

neither Pete or Jake are going anywhere and I'd expect their relationship is fine.

Say what you will about the choice to pull Oetter. But it wasnt just the choice.

Deboer told Oettinger AFTER the time out when he was on the way back to the net
Deboer yelled at Oettinger when he went down the tunnel
Post game instead of behaving reasonably, Deboer fired up the bus, threw it in reverse, and ran right over Oettinger.

"We had talked endlessly in this series about trying to play with a lead, and obviously we were in a 2-0 hole right away,” DeBoer said. “I didn’t take that lightly and I didn’t blame it all on Jake, but the reality is, if you go back to last year’s playoffs, he’s lost six of seven games to Edmonton. And we give up two goals on two shots in an elimination game. So it was partly to spark our team and wake them up. And partly knowing that status quo had not been working, and that’s a pretty big sample size.”

That's what Pete said.

What is he wrong about here??

Ottinger has to own his end of this.

"I didnt put the blame on Jake..." proceeds to completely blame Jake

So, stating the obvious is now blaming someone?

He hasn't fared well against Edmonton. And it was 2-0 5 minutes in, in a must win game.

Pete would be derelict in his duties if he didn't pull Jake.
Sadly we live in a world where telling the truth to someone is considered a bad thing. Jake sucked and he was deservedly called out.

Pete was derelict in his duty by not protecting his stud goalie.

Look at how Arniel handled Hellebuyck, who nearly blew it in rd 1 and wasnt much better in rd 2. Stood behind him despite Hellebuyck being a pompous douche. And Otter was nowhere near that bad

Pulling the goalie wasn't the issue. It's what followed. From the yelling to the post game comments. It doesn't matter if the coach was right that this wasn't working, he publicly tossed his goalie under the bus. That's not motivation. That's not just being honest to the media. That was completely disrespectful for the coach.

But I agree that neither are going anywhere and I'm sure they will talk through it.

The call to pull him was fine but the double down by DeBoer was horrifically dumb.
