Jake Muzzin scary injury

Could have been a minor for cross checking, but I think it’d have been soft. Maybe not as soft as the call of Kap, but still fairly soft.

Just a freak result that you hate to see.

Hopefully it was just being super cautious and he’s not really hurt that bad.

Milbury makes guys like Pierre Mcguire a joy to hear on commentary .

Anybody have an old pair of platform shoes to beat this guy with so we can question if hes waiting for a whistle before he gets up ?

Seems like the injury happened after the cross check but the last minutes of the game were a perfect microcosm of NHL refereeing - two PPs gifted to the Jackets, then they were allowed to do just about anything short of murder because the refs gotta keep the game close. I was rooting for CBJ but I will never understand why it's okay to commit blatant infractions if it's the final minute or it's the playoffs or you are close to the net, hence cross-checks are called once every seventy-eight times or so.

I hope Muzzin is okay.

I don't think that's a suspension. A penalty? Definitely.

I blame the refs calling two phantom calls in the last 5 minutes because game management, leading to some undeserved zone time for Columbus, and Columbus knew they could do almost anything without any fear of calls.

You think that would be a soft crosschecking penalty?

I can understand people saying no suspension, but you call that a soft crosscheck? lol.

Crazy to me how the refs decided to call a slashing penalty on Kapanen, for whatever it is they think he did, but didn't call a cross check there. Looked really bad, i hope his neck is ok. Another prime example of why refs should be held accountable for stupid calls/non-calls

A guy got stretchered off the ice in a neck brace yes there SHOULD be a suspension there won't be but there SHOULD be

Jesus. It was precautionary.

He was moving his hands & feet. And besides, he got a whack, but it wasn't that hard and Dubois didn't send him into the boards head-first or anything. Muzzin actually tried to get up after the hit and go after the puck, then he fell into the back of the guy's knee/leg.

ZERO intent to injure. It was a freak accident. Minor penalty at best.

Yes. cross checks of that intensity happen multiple times a game and are rarely called.

I am sorry but that is just an awful opinion in my eyes. That's a crosschecking penalty every day of the week. If the game wasn't being managed in the last 5 minutes, it's a no brainer. In fact, if Columbus was ahead 2-0, I bet it's called.

What?

It’s a freak accident and in no way Dubois’ fault but that’s a pretty vicious crosscheck that is definitely worthy of a minor. Not sure what standard would be set for that to be soft.

Suspensions and penalties absolutely aren't nor shouldn't be determined on whether there was injury or stretchers involved. You start that nonsense and we will have guys faking stretcher injuries just to get their team 5 minute PPs and other such nonsense.

Hope he's ok, at least he was moving when first down obviously Muzzin thought something was wrong enough to stay put.

like to see a longer clip from the beginning. dirty crosscheck up high no doubt, clip starts with muzzin hand pushing off dubois. too bad he didnt just keep skating with muzzin instead of cross checking him. think that initial cross check was the damage done that was right up high must of hurt. i see him getting a game or too dirty high hit.

Cross checks can be divided into two categories.

A pushing cross check, which is never called and really should never be called. It's only intent is to move the player.

Then there's a punching cross check where the player rears back and drives the stick into the victim. These should be called, penalized, and, IMO, suspended because they are done with an intent to injure.

It's clear as day what PLD did to Muzzin.

We don’t actually know that. If Keefe doesn’t know, it’s likely not that simple.
