Eakins is dressing 5 dmen on most nights and giving Gardiner 30 minutes a night of TOI/g in all situations. Eakins also claims Gardiner is handling that ice time and performing while developing well under big minutes played. If he isn't with the Leafs there really couldn't be a better situation for Gardiner to be in and under the Eakins development guidance. IMO

This is not a bad situation for Gardiner to be in, while the parent team attempts to make roster room for him.

We all would love to see him back in the NHL with the Leafs, but unfortunately previous contract mistakes has created a roadblock to his return. When those mistakes are resolved we will look forward to welcoming back Jake with open arms.

With the Marlies playing tonight and the game at home against Pittsburgh tomorrow, it gives Gardiner one more game to prepare, and Nonis one more day to clear up a roster spot. Would it not make sense having this game his last game?

God I would love Niewendyk to call Nonis about Liles today.

Just not sure about the Eakins love.

Do we care if he's won something or is that not important?

Maybe he's in the ideal situation, developing players?

He's good with young players, really coach's these days know all the systems they would want to employ, I believe it comes down to communication and respect amongst players. NHL Experience is overrated IMO, Bylsma had none and won the cup right off the bat, Deboer did very well not even coaching a pro game. I think he's ready, the players in our Org know him, why not? I know one thing he won't be in the minors for long and we will lose him to another team.

Grabo + Liles for Roy + Robidas.

:sarcasm:

Phaneuf-Rodidas
Gardiner-Gunnarsson
Fraser-Franson

Only 1 guy on the Off-side RC, deal with it!

DeBoer was fired from Florida after 3 seasons of missing the playoffs. Took over a team that Lemaire had stabilized after retiring the previous year. Lemaire came in mid season and turned them around and then DeBoer took over the next year.

I agree DeBoer did well in the playoffs last year, but didn't do "very well" to start his pro-coaching career.

Anyway, DeBoer won the OHL the year before he went to Florida.

I regard Deboer as a hell of a coach, his first year in Florida, he missed the playoffs by a tie breaker, took that team in his rookie year to 97 points.

So it does appear Carlyle isn't a fan.... yet.

Carlyle on Gardiner: "[We want him at a level] where he’s probably too good for the AHL. And I haven’t heard anybody tell me that he has."

Because Holzer and Kostka are just that. :D

Yep. Carlyle wants Gardiner to suck as bad as Holzer and Kostka have.

Sadly...that just isn't one of Gardiner's traits.

Hey Carlyle, Eakins has said it like twice that he's ready for the NHL...maybe you should pay more attention.

Carlyle's honeymoon is officially over.

So what he's saying is Kostka and Holzer are too good for the AHL? Ridiculous thought process. Gardiner played the whole year in Toronto last year and scored 30 points as a rookie defenseman. How else can he see it then as being held back by the coach. That comment Carlyle said in that tweet just affirms that thought in my mind. He's trying to justify his position.

Yea but the difference between Kostka/Holzer and Gardiner is they're trying to push Gardiner to becoming a top player at his position. They're not worried about that with Holzer/Kostka.

It'd help if our defense wasn't stinking it up so much though.

Maybe he should ask zeke?

I love Carlyle. But holzer and Kostka are not too good for AHL. Lol 30 Pts in 40 game coming back from a concussion seems good to me. Ugh!!

Bad contracts are hard to move. Perhaps impossible.

Is Carlyle a decoy to bring Gardiner back to Anaheim?

I know this is way too early...but I hope we still have Eakins after this year.

The more I hear and see of Dallas, the more I think he should be our coach next year. I like Randy. But Eakins has spent so much time with all the kids. Everytime he talks and explains something, I come away incredibly impressed. I don't feel bad for Gardiner, because any time you have with DE is great. But DAMN lol we could use Gardiners skill set from the back end.

A few more losses will definitely bring Gardiner back to the NHL but it might just be a little too late.

If we don't make the playoffs, it falls squarely on Carlyle being inept and icing Kostka and Holzer over Gardiner+Liles.

Can't argue with that.

The other thing is thinking outside of the box and using the amnesty to our advantage. If we eat 500 k or so of Liles cap hit, take back a salary that we could amnesty and include another decent player in the deal it could be a way to clear up space and maybe acquire a prospect/pick.

something like:

Macarthur (UFA) + Liles (3.395 cap hit) for Heatley (7.5 million) + pick/prospect.

I dont have a problem with the leafs keeping Gardiner in the AHL. The issue is, when Wilson started becoming entitled and began combating with the media/making decisions in spite of them, it ultimately resulted in a toxic environment thus causing him to loose his job.

If Carlyle starts trending down this same path, it can only mean bad things for the leafs.

Do you really thing Wilson or any other NHL coach would make decisions out of spite towards the media covering the team?

Nonis wants to maximize his assets (though some of the guys ahead of gards are hardly assets) and there is nothing wrong with him getting a ton of minutes in all situations in the AHL under Eakins. We can all see how it worked out for Kadri
