Value of: Jake Evans

That's old news.

Since his recall from AHL last year, Armia has been as solid as a bottom 6er can be ..

17 goals last year and solid defensive play with timely offense this year.

NHL players value is like stock market, as their contribution rise/plummet, as goes their value...

And Armia has been a solid, not spectacular contributor since more than a year...
Oh sorry, I’m just going off of Montreal game day thread. As recent as the last game.

I’d go and capture the dozens and dozens of posts, but I don’t have time for that.

Feel free to peruse the habs forum!

From NJ’s perspective it doesn’t make sense to trade Nemec for a package. If his value has dropped then it would be a bad move to sell him while his value is low.

Fitz does seem interested in Evans which is why we’re here but if someone outbids him I doubt the Nj fanbase will be too upset.

Evans doesn’t play a top 6 position. What he brings seems to be important but not so important that the Devils should overpay for him. If the Devils are going to use a 1st or a good asset I would hope it’s for a ROR type. At least there’s still some term on his contract and he’s won a championship before.

Would you be ready, as a NJ fan, to pay NJ '25 2nd + Jets/Oilers '25 2nd for Evans?

The NJ pick will be in the 50th+ range and Jets/Oilers in the 60th+ range.

Jets/Oilers pick is almost a 3rd rd pick...

I personally think it'd be fair.

Ok, you're surely right cause I don't go on Montreal game day thread, so I believe you.

But if they complain about Armia right now, sorry but they don't know what they're talking about..

He's as good as you can ask from a bottom 6 player. He's textbook what you want from a player of that type.

It's just that he doesn't fit with the MTL rebuild timeline. So trading him now is logical.

Habs are already stacked with draft picks and they already said they do not plan to draft all of them.
This draft they already have 2x1st, 2x2nd, 3x3rd, 2x4th, 5th, 6th and 7th.

I would do it but it still seems pretty steep for someone with an expiring contract. I definitely wouldn’t be too upset about it if it went through. Especially if Evans plays well and re-signs.

I think Evans fits well with the Devils playstyle. He's fast and can play fast. Good on faceoff and PK, while not totally inept offensively.

Habs want Gritsyuk
I'm sure they do. Hard to see NJ trading what could be five or more years of a player they like for a rental. After a great start, Evans has really slowed down. He's only scored one goal in the past 19 games starting on Dec. 31. I'm sure he will bring a decent return for MTL but it will likely be less than it would have been before the recent swoon.

Would the devils also want Armia? Armia and Evans vs gritsiuk and a late pick ?

He'll play well as it's one of his quality: he's very steady, you know what you gonna get from him on a shift to shift basis.

And defensively, he's very smart. The number of dangerous offensive plays he breaks is astonishing.
He wins a lot of face offs, he eats difficult minutes against tough opponents and does well (he's in the + doing so, on a bottom 10 team in the league).
He's given a lot of defensive zone face offs.

He's elite at what he does.

Yep, but could they package some of those picks to get some higher picks?

They did it last year and it paid off, they were able to get their man in Hage at 21st. I don't think they'd be able to get him at 26.

They could trade some of those picks to postpone them in later draft too...

I think the most important thing in Habs situation is to not waste assets and lose valuable UFAs for nothing.

Never say never but given NJ already has Haula who would be displaced by Evans it seems unlikely to me they'd want more of the same. Ultimately, Evans is a depth player and the return will likely reflect that in my opinion. I'm sure MTL will ask for first round value but that's a steep ask unless he starts scoring again after the break. MTL will have a handful of games before the trade deadline so he will have his chance and I'm confident MTL will showcase him to try to get him going to help their trade efforts.

Friedman about Hughes: "He's got a big price on Evans, probably I think like a 2nd round pick is what he'd like to get."

That quote is from 32 Thoughts the podcast. However, that's just his speculation.

I think asking for a 2nd will just start a bidding war..

Assets like Evans are sought after commodities comes the TD.

Hughes might end up with a 2nd + b prospect/another pick

A 2nd rounder will get offered by many teams, and Hughes will get to pick which he wants.

For example, if NJ, Tor and Van offer a 2nd you take Van's because it will be the highest... Then maybe you get 2nd + 4th from Toronto to outbid Vancouver, etc.

That is how I'd go about it.

If I'm Brisebois, I throw Mtl a second and then try to flip him for another second but have the ability to control what team gets him. Probably not that easy though but theoretically shouldn't be impossible given the widespread interest

Never understood the idea that some fans have that their team doesn't want more picks.

Picks can be bundled and traded to get higher on the draft board. they can be traded for a player at the draft.
Of course, they would take two 2nds if that is the best offer and flip it later. It is just not Habs primary need.
