Jake Evans

3.5M is the max you should allow to this kind of player. You already should think about Hutson, Demidov, Reinbacher (or Reinbacher replacement) long term money. Dont give too much biscuits to the bottom 6.

80% D zone starts and quite often getting faceoffs against the other teams best lines. Some fans just don't understand usage and evaluate on points only. I don't think he is worth $4M+ AAV but he's certainly not just some average bottom 6F either. There is middle ground here with Evans.

I remember both Habs fans and other fans jumping on Danault's back about his value years ago. Comments like Gallagher is carrying him  . Danault was used 80% in the D zone for the Habs magical cup run but most other sample sizes were around 60%. Evans has been around 80% D zone starts for quite some time. That is very high

The other layer is he has been bounced around with our shitty depth and injuries over the years. He was playing with trash and this season, MSL has provided some stability and you can see the results with guys like Anderson, Armia, and Evans. We did it to Lehkonen as well.

Wouldn’t Habs fans rather go higher AAV for 2-3 years? Get the last prime years of his career and can afford a higher hit and then just have Evans and his contract drop off entirely when you start having to pay the bill on the next wave.

I’d think 2x$4 hits the sweet spot. Maybe even a touch above like $4.25 if you have to, even if the AAV seems too high. Keep a culture guy through his age 30 season as you ramp up the rebuild. And low years and higher AAV is still easily tradeable in the next year or two because you can retain more easily with less years which keeps your options open.

And if you are Evans, maybe you can be convinced to go short term because you’ll get a higher salary and if you keep playing well, you can dip back in to the market with a rising cap before you seem way too old.

no, longer term for less money for Evans makes the most sense (5 years is the sweet spot)

his game is all IQ, that ages well, he's a durable player too

Usually a bottom 6 or bottom pairing skater makes for a fairly useless TDL acquisition but Evans I feel different about. He can PK and he can be a we blanket over an opponent's 2nd line.

Of all the Habs rentals that they've auctioned off over these last couple years him and Lehkonen to me are the most worthy of a top 60 draft pick.

You don't think Sean Monahan was worthy of a top-60 draft pick?

Or Tyler Toffoli?

Pierre Lebrun just said Habs and Evans contract negotiations are stalled.

He said both sides are far apart.

I personally don't think HuGo will risk losing him for nothing if its not done before TD.

Furthermore, Habs actual free fall in the standings will surely finish to convince Habs brass to trade him...

A 2nd + b prospect?

I agree Montreal would be wise to keep Evans if possible, but would what you be interested in for a package of Evans and Armia (50% retained)?

Looking at some numbers, NJ may be able to fit both without retention (a contract going back somewhere) and MTL can keep it open for Savard.

Personally, I'd love to have Kovacevic back and I'm not sure signing him would be wise for the Devil's (blocking Nemec's way to the NHL?).

So maybe Kovacevic + 2nd + b/c prospect?

what's your offer for one of the best PK duos in the NHL? and keep in mind habs have 12 picks this year and 9 in 26.
Hughes has already said he wants young, NHL ready players. And yes habs can retain on Armia.

A conditional 2nd, nothing more especially while Donato is the better player on the market
good, fire up that phone call to Davidson
