Everyone giving Hughes props here. And I'm sure he deserves a bit.

But let's be real.

Jake Evans WANTED to stay. Jake Evans WANTED to be a Monreal Canadien.

This was all Jake Evans.

Thank you, Jake.
Was just about to come here and say this. Jake didn't want to leave and left money on the table for sure. Kent stuck to his guns and he's building a team guys wanna play for. Hopefully every one in the room takes notice. We're building a good culture

The real hurdle will be locking down Pezz for 8 years.
The rumblings, are that MB and the guys in LA are thinking they will lure Pezz out there........

Maybe not. Seems his agent was asking for $4m x 5 and that's what Tony reported. When KH didn't budge, Jake told his agent to f*** off and accept the offer. I hope people with a propensity to spit their venom at players without a second thought, will remember what Jake did here today, and resist the urge to make complete assholes of themselves.

Good on Evans for telling his agent, who his agent works for..............not many athletes will do that.

As I said in the Trade Board HuGo gets the credit for building a team and culture that players want to be a part of. I am sure he would have packed his bags months ago if MB was still in charge.

If the team and agent are far apart the GM should talk to the player and make sure he knows what the agent is doing. Avs should have done that, and maybe they did, before trading Rantanen,

It's clear to me this organization is a positive environment. The players must have really bought in to the energy to take a pay cut on losing team. He could've had that contract on about 30 teams. It's great to see a bottom 6 guy at a bargain.

There is no question we should read into this. He took less because he wants to be here with his brothers. Suzuki , Gallagher want the team kept together because there is a bond here.

Do not undervalue this. These guys are playing for each other. They need a few more pieces but the team chemistry is there. When they get those pieces, look out, they will make more than just noise.
It really all started with Caufield and then continued with Slaf and Guhle. But yeah no doubt the players have bought into what is being built here.

There’s Always a Debbie Downer. They weren’t getting him any shorter.
thats worst then a debbie downer,.... thats a Debbie kerren downer that finds shopping at dolarama expensive.

then again kent hughes created a team culture where evans wants to stay and take less.

nothing better then coming to work everyday and being happy doing what you love in a top environment.. It is priceless.
they have created a hell of an environment. and i think it will only grow.

What will look ridiculous?
Extending now with a club who misses the playoffs, when you could have extended after playing with another club with better chances of winning the cup. So i hope it works out for him and Habs cross the finish line in the playoffs.

Some people care less about winning. From a pro-sport perspective, I'm not a fan.

He clearly wanted to stay. I'm fine with it good contract.

Now please DO NO sign any of Savard, Armia and Dvorak.

Armia is an interesting player with qualities the habs are short on. So is Savard, but Savard is aging and slowing down. Dvorak has been better this year, but not good enough to bring him back.

I'd miss Armia. Happy, and not surprised, about Evans.

He won’t look foolish; he sees what this club is building. He sees the talented players coming up, he sees the direction; Jake is one of the most intelligent players on this squad. Very cerebral. He wants to be part of it. Don’t look further. He loves it in Mtl. Good on him!

Evans definitely left money on the table. Rare these days

Evans probably told his agent to just make a deal because this is a ridiculously good bargain for the Habs. The 5-game win streak and the Dach injury kind of put things in place for Evans to be re-signed imo.

I kinda feel bad for him though because he could've gotten much more on the open market and this was his last chance at a big payday. It shows that he really wanted to stay.

Great job by Hughes, let's see if Evans keep up his play now that he got paid.

*Now that I think of it, I hope that he asked for a NMC cause it would suck for him that take that huge of a hometown discount just to get traded 2 years in

At a certain point money can only bring so much value. If he's conservative with his money, invests, and doesn't live a life a luxury beyond his means, he'll be fine. this deal strikes me as a guy with the right priorities in life.

Absolutely….i like EVANS a lot and I’m happy to watch him continue to grow in his trade. In the meantime, he has really helped us with his PK skills and perhaps being the best 4th line center in the NHL.

Wow that is a great deal, I probably would have given 4M$ I just didn’t want to give him 5 years. But under 3M with the cap going up for 4 years is amazing. He clearly took less money to stay that is also a great to see.
