Don't care for this one at all. He's a dime-a-dozen player and "luxury" fourth line player who has, outside of this year, been part of some of the worst PK units in the league. His value in trade would have been much higher than his value on the ice over the next four seasons.

But, relatively speaking, the contract is a ridiculous steal compared to what he'd be getting on the market, so good negotiating.

Who would replace said “dime a dozen” player, at that price? Let’s hear some names.

Evans probably told his agent to just make a deal because this is a ridiculously good bargain for the Habs. The 5-game win streak and the Dach injury kind of put things in place for Evans to be re-signed imo.

I kinda feel bad for him though because he could've gotten much more on the open market and this was his last chance at a big payday. It shows that he really wanted to stay.

Great job by Hughes, let's see if Evans keep up his play now that he got paid.

He is and he's our top PK center and as a team, MSL has each line playing pretty much the same amount. We roll 4 lines more consistently than most teams.

The guy took a hometown discount to stay in a city he loves to play and live in. 2.85 M per year that's not a bad gig. Glad they kept and more importantly SIGNED him to a hometown discount. Couldn't afford to really pay him market value and field a championship team in a few years like they hope to.

If they could not sign him a trade had to happen but in the end this is the perfect scenario.

There is no question we should read into this. He took less because he wants to be here with his brothers. Suzuki , Gallagher want the team kept together because there is a bond here.

Do not undervalue this. These guys are playing for each other. They need a few more pieces but the team chemistry is there. When they get those pieces, look out, they will make more than just noise.
