Great to see Evans here for a while. He had a tough start to his career here with some injuries. This likely means Armia will stay and Dvorak and Savard are likely moving on in the off season. Not Dvorak's fault he got overpaid, but he will need a pay cut to stick around judging by his performance this year and father time is catching up with Savard. While we don't have much depth heading into the final 20 games we are playing well. With a little more cap space at the end of the year we should be able to make the moves to fill any holes in the lineup. I expect Armia should be signed soon to avoid any further distractions going down the stretch.

Does Hutson become the Habs top paid player soon? The Suzuki contract can't be the bench mark forever.
Yes, he'll be the top paid guy, higher than Demidov. Probably in the 10-11 range. That said, it seems Hughes is getting people to buy into the team salary structure.

I guess it all depends on the rewards he's selling. I'm sure there are large groups of players that are willing to earn a little less than what they deserve for the sake of winning championships. And we seem to be uniting them in Montreal, so it's vital that the message is continuously reinforced. I believe Hutson will be mindful of this, as well as Laine. As we see in Toronto, all it takes is a few maximalists to create a culture of maximum financial rewards rather than team competitiveness.

I do wonder what someone like Mathews would answer to the question of whether he would be willing to lose a few million a year to win the Stanley cup.

Very happy for Evans. We needed that stability, especially in a context where we don't know what we'll do with Dach. Very good deal and moveable too.

Much more reasonable than expected. He'd very likely earn more in the free agency. After this it's interesting to see what Hughes can do with Hutson and Laine extensions. Also, this is a signal that Canadiens are trying to compete for playoffs this season. If Canadiens are buyers who would they target?

I was on the trade side but happy to retain him under 3 million.

I'M curious if Kent is going to wait for one more season before signing him. I believe he should wait for next summer. Rookie usually have a bad second season.

No but even if we only get a 2nd in 2027... You still can resign him July 1st, and he can still keep his condo or whatever. The reasoning behind this signature looks immature. I spent the majority of my college years moving everywhere for internships, I don't get the "I don't want to leave part". It's really brushing me the wrong way like we're dealing with big baby Crosby eh.

This is unhinged. This man could never be satisfied lmao.

Don't care for this one at all. He's a dime-a-dozen player and "luxury" fourth line player who has, outside of this year, been part of some of the worst PK units in the league. His value in trade would have been much higher than his value on the ice over the next four seasons.

But, relatively speaking, the contract is a ridiculous steal compared to what he'd be getting on the market, so good negotiating.

A no-brainer at that price. The odds of the pick we would have acquired for him turning out as well as him are low. Plus he’d have to be replaced as of next season anyway, likely by someone not as good of a 4th line center.

Fatso was obviously totally wrong!
Good deal for both sides
Maybe not. Seems his agent was asking for $4m x 5 and that's what Tony reported. When KH didn't budge, Jake told his agent to f*** off and accept the offer. I hope people with a propensity to spit their venom at players without a second thought, will remember what Jake did here today, and resist the urge to make complete assholes of themselves.
