The last GM was a very stupid person, terrible deals, just the worst. Should never have had the job. But we’ll fix all that. We have a plan - the best plan - ever - it will be the best team you’ve seen, let me tell you.
MB sucked but the whole Suzuki trade and contract signing is a work of art.

I was just joking, but you speak the truth.

I think this will be a relief for Evans and he’ll get to scoring again. 5 points in last 25.

It was weighing on him.

Now please DO NO sign any of Savard, Armia and Dvorak.

Do not extend Armia, Savard or Dvo though.

I'm down with re-signing Armia on the cheap. Seeing Evans' deal I'm thinking 2yr 1.95 AAV.

Who do you trade with 50% retention next summer Gallagher or Anderson?

Neither. I'm cool with letting both contracts run out.

If they re-sign Dvorak, I’m done with this team.

Really? That's your step too far? That would make you tap out? After like a decade of Bergevin?

...i guess that 5 x 4M rumor was complete bs?

Probably not. That's what, I'm guessing, his agent's opening bid was when Evans was super hot.

No but even if we only get a 2nd in 2027... You still can resign him July 1st, and he can still keep his condo or whatever. The reasoning behind this signature looks immature. I spent the majority of my college years moving everywhere for internships, I don't get the "I don't want to leave part". It's really brushing me the wrong way like we're dealing with big baby Crosby eh.

What kind of word salad was that? The F you talking about man? Don't post while baked amigo.

Year 4 of the mediocrity no stanley cup plan.

Who the F is you man? We're well within a re-building team's schedule.

There's still two years remaining on Anderson and Gallagher we simply can't afford in our situation to throw money/term at depth player while we need to fill the top 4 and top 6.

What I'm wondering beyond Hutson is what's Heineman's new contract gonna look like?

I think that'll look ridiculous if they fail at it, that's what I think.

Doesn't matter if he's married, he would still sign this deal July 1st, what do you think? Habs would say no? Come on...

Ultimately as a fan, I would have liked to have traded Evan's for a 1st, tanked, and hopefully gotten a high draft pick to either add another Slaf/Reinbacher/Demidov piece to the core, or have the assets to trade for a quality 2c.

But, I respect that the players want to compete after three straight years of meaningless games and no playoffs.

Need to trade Savard for a 1st or 2nd and Armia for a 3rd or higher or good young players. If you can’t get that for them then just keep them and let them walk, but some team will give us a 1st/2nd or a 3rd/decent prospect and maybe use our pool and cap space to improve our roster at the same time

The trade that MB wanted Cody Glass............and settled for Nick? The biggest stroke of luck during his tenure, outside of inheriting CP31
Happens all the time to GMs: Gainey offered Sather his choice between Balej & Plekanec for Kovalev…

Thats a good signing and takes pressure off the bottom C situation as Dvo will not be resigned.

This is the most money Evans has secured in his life and if he isnt dumb with it he will set up his family to live comfortably for generations to come. And thats a hell of an acomplishment for a 7th round pick.

I think its a good deal but remember he is a 4C and thats decent pay for a 4C. The $4M AAV is 3C numbers.

...Savard will never elicit a 1st from anyone, even the most braindead of GMs...a 4th maybe...

Agreed but keep in mind going by ice time Evans isn't the 4th line C.

Dach 15:40
Evans 15:34
Dvorak 14:56

Flabbergasted that we were able to sign him under 3M AAV. Very good news that he stays with us, he plays a lot of tough minutes.

“Hey Canadiens fans! I’m really looking forward to the next four years and I’m really happy to be able to stay in Montreal. I just want to thank you for your support, I’m looking forward to the years to come.” - Jake Evans
