Good deal for the Habs as I think Evans could have gotten more elsewhere. Anything more than this would have been inappropriate for his role on the team moving forward. Happy to have him! Gives us some flexibility bringing in young forwards next year.

There's no doubt that this offer was on the table for at least couple of days now. HIghly doubt it's a case of KH offering more no way the offer was lower that that. There's a good chance KH told Jake's agent his client would be traded if not signed by the TDL and Evans wanted to stay.

When I saw the thread the number was so low my first thought was someone bumped Evans thread from his previous contract.

More then anything this goes to show just how much the players are buying into what the Habs are selling. This is the type of deal you sign because you think the team is building something special and will do something special.

This! 100% this was Jake deciding one million wasn't worth not playing in Montreal. Everyone else take note. Excellent deal for the organization for one of our leaders, with or without the A on the shirt. Gives 100% every shift.

On the one hand, ideally, you trade him in a package for a 1st and then you re-sign him in the summer.

But first of all getting the 1st and getting him back in the summer weren't necessarily options.

Second, hard to be sellers when we're 1 point out if a playoff spot and the pkayers have been going through many years of losing. Good to give them a chance to play for the pkayoffs and possibly in the playoffs. Players like Suzuki and in their primes. NHL players now overwhelmingly decline at age 32. It's a short window.
