Player Discussion Jake Evans (Part II)

It's absolutely insane people keep calling him 4th liner..

On ice time alone, you 'could' call Heineman a 4th liner

But Jake playing 18 mins a night, means he is no 4th liner

And even more infuriating then that lol, if you call him a 4th liner, then Dvorak is our 3rd line C
And I'm sorry but he's just not lol

Play on words all you want, I hate interacting with people who do this? Late round picks rarely pan out but those who do have to work extra harder and show more determination. Condescending know it alls make sites like this less enjoyable, you should be proud.
You know what is less enjoyable, ppl making claims they can’t back up and then getting upset when it gets pointed out to them.

Was it a grave mistake to let go of Dannault?
He wasn't traded, he signed as a Free Agent due to Bergevin being an idiot and not negotiating earlier... Aside from the fact that he's a terrible negotiator and contract maker...

Right as of now the rumors are that he's a potential trade target.
Unless you can get back a roster player of equal or better value, you don't trade him for picks... Unless you really want to just let him walk at Free Agency or can't come to a proper financial agreement.

If there are issues with the cap... Fix them, don't pull another Lehkonen.

I'd be unhappy if we could have signed him for $4M or under, and didn't.

Over $4M we should not sign him. If we are offered a 1st trade him. If we are offered less than a 1st and we are in the fight I keep him as our own rental. If he wants more than $4M and we are out of it get what we can.

I hope we can sign him.

How valid is the rumor Jake will need to come down on his demands and where is the leak coming from if it is real?
Yeah in these last few years there have been 0 leaks from Hughes and I don't see him as playing that way. I think it's just obvious that as of now Evans is not signed and if they have had any conversations it means Evans is asking for too much and the Habs offering too little.

I agree. If it would be a no brainer he would have been signed by now. Not impossible they sign him but i doubt they are close to a deal atm. My stance on this is the same as it was for Monahan. I think he'll be traded for a 1st round pick. I was right with Monahan time will tell if i'm right here.

Around 4 million is my cut off point for Evans. I think that is being generous. He's a good 4th line center. But at end of day, he's still a 4th line center. They not that hard to replace.

I might go 4 years if it gets deal done. Takes him through his prime years. But rather 3

With interviews it said from TSN that Hugues wont overpay for Evans.

Save to say he should get Armia money and if not , habs will trade him. Evans is good but he's still a bottom 6 player at his best. Also not sure if Evans can play as a 3rd center an entire season.
Who do we have on this roster that can play as 3C for entire season better than Evans could? If the answer isn't on the team, where do we get it, and how much does it cost?

Evans is having the best season of his career by far, and will want to get paid accordly. We should not be the one paying him that new contract. Chances are he will regress, and we have many upcoming center prospects that are very close to the nhl (Beck, Kapanen, Hage) that will need that opportunity.

I am confused, why is there no assist for Jake last night? He made the perfect setup on the 1st goal.
All kidding aside, I like the player, just not sure how you can spend so much on a 4th liner.

I feel the money should be spent on the top 6 to push out guys like Newhook....whether it be spending on a UFA, trading assets to acquire a better player or re-signing a guy like Laine. Hence the importance of selling high on assets such as Evans and Savard and stock piling picks.

If they don't sign Evans, they have to sign someone else who can slot in right away if they want to grow. I think we have seen the importance of adding an extra veteran on defense already and how that has allowed the young guys to settle in.

They need someone to do that for a guy like Beck too as they go through their trials and turbulations at the nhl level.

Ideally we get Evans signed to a manageable contract. We run Suzy, Kirby, Jake and let the best man win the #4C at camp. Be it Beck, Kapanen, etc....

Like I said , You'd pay Evans 5-6 years at 4.5m+
If there is a GM stupid enough to give a 20-30 points player that much money to play defensively then i think it's easy to move on.
