THE DAY JAKE BECAME EVANS:

View attachment 387814

I remember he went a long time in Laval without scoring. And, his stats in lower leagues don't show a ton of goals and make him seem like more of a playmaker. Yet, so far, the way he goes to the net and his hard and accurate wrister make him look like more of a goal scorer.

Maybe since the game is faster and he's new, he hasn't yet started being the maestro and more goes to the net and shoots/collects rebounds...

But I think as he gets more comfortable, he'll start creating more plays as a play maker.

How good does it feel to have a good develpment coach in the A.

I feel like players like Evans who progress tremendously in the minor won't be the first we see from the Rockets and Bouchard.

Did we noticed how most of our prospect get an up swing once they go threw the AHL ? Was not the case before.

Bergevin moved Eller because of Danault in 2016. I don't see why he wouldnt repeat that

I like Danault just fine but we have the winger depth to run 3 scoring lines. Evans just straight up seems to have better offensive awareness than Danault. Evans fits WAY better with our team make up now imo. I'm excited to see what Gally and Tatar could do with Evans. God if Evans had Danault's strength he'd POSSIBLY be a #2C. Maybe not a great one but maybe a middling one which would still be amazing.

I can't remember a player that has improved his speed more then him.
he seems to understand more his role. Previously, I found he was trying to play like an offensive player, like cerebral player like suzuki. Right now, he takes care of his own zone, is playing more like a « grinder ». Rush the net. Forechek well. Shot to the net quickly. He has offensive tools too. Nice player who improved well. I think. He could play on the third line without a problem soom

and that's one of the reasons I was never high on Evans. He has decent offensive skills but not good enough to over come his very meh skating imo. Now that his speed is actually an asset and so drastically improved, that changes everything. Kid could be a very good player for us.

I'm not sure that he will be more then a bottom 6 player but he can become a really good bottom 6 player and that will be useful

To me this is where we can see the impact of development. When I say Sly was putrid and detrimental, it's because in his 6 years here...the guy couldn't even produce a good bottom 6 player, heck, not even a 4th liner. There's no excuse for this.

Happy to see Evans perform well.

Looks ready for that 3c spot. Very good on the PK.

Is the PK reserved for the 3C? Trying to see the causality f that statement. Maybe there is none?

It's a bit early to anoint Evans as the 3rd C, especially on a team like Montreal that needs three scoring lines to compete.

Evans could become a decent 3rd line C in a checking line role but, maybe an elite 4th line C as well on a team with a coach that looks to roll four lines like Julien does.

I'm in no hurry to promote Evans to 3C duties but, then again, I'm not in the camp that mistakenly depicts Danault as a useless husk that might even be the anti-Christ.

Exactly what i said numerous times, heck i called him worst coach in the game.
To me, what also stood out, is almost every player he had regressed, regardless of talent.
What you want from a top development coach, is to hekp the player become the best he can be, sure that might not always be in the nhl, as not everyone cut to make the nhl, but even if he improve echl level player to play in the ahl that's a positive.

What we are getting from Evans playing 12 min a game is unreal IMO.
I’m just curious to see what his progression will look like over the next 20GP. Is there a possibility that Evans in 1-2 seasons can be where Danault is today?

If such dramatic step change in potential growth is viable, does that open up options for the Habs to seriously consider - i.e. dealing Danault to a team lacking 2C options like say NYR?

Not a chance. I'm far from a Danault defender here but that's selling him short. What he does on the defensive aspect of the game versus the best players in the game is pretty remarkable. Evans plays 12 minutes on a 4th line mate..Let's not go crazy.
