Jake Debrusk

Wasn’t Brannstrom just a throw in though? I don’t consider him as a guy they specifically targeted.
True. Brannstrom was the guy the Canucks had to accept for unloading the last year of Poolman's LTIR contract, along with surrendering the fourth rounder they got in the Podkolzin trade with Edmonton.

I don’t really get why DeBrusk is singled out as a 'streaky' scorer - he’s a consistent 25-goal guy, and that kind of scoring naturally comes in waves for most wingers in the NHL with that production profile.

If he wasn’t streaky, he'd be putting up 40–50 goals and be in the elite tier.

Tocchet’s post-game comments were interesting - not exactly a glowing endorsement of your top goal scorer. He posted similar stats in Boston and still found himself in and out of Cassidy’s doghouse, so that could be something to monitor next season if Tocchet’s back behind the bench.

Yeah they were interesting and valid imo. Seems to be the issue with JDB. He gets you some goals but he’s completely unnoticeable most nights. He doesn’t do much to drive play and does next to nothing away from the puck.
I was looking forward to seeing him in the playoffs cuz he apparently is pretty clutch - was wondering if he played with a little more intensity.

On one hand he'll finish at just shy of 50 points and 30 goals while never being a problem defensively which is perfectly fine for his cap hit, especially considering how poor his center was for most of the season. If Petey was his regular self Debrusk probably would have another 20 points just through osmosis.

On the other hand he's way too quiet for long stretches and is capable of so much more if he played with more intensity consistently given his speed/size/skill package.

He's fine and would never really be a talking point if he had a couple wingers playing ahead of him which on a real contender would probably be the case.

When you consider that Brock Boeser is reportedly looking for an $8m contract with term, for goal-scoring numbers similar to DeBrusk's--then his contract of $5.5m is a relative bargain.

And if the Canucks could find him a consistent center to play with--like Boeser had with the departed J.T. Miller--then DeBrusk's goal totals might be even higher.

DeBrusk is the least of the Canucks 'problems'.

Don't see how anyone can complain too much about DeBrusk.

Scored 28 goals in a season where everything went to shit.

For 5.5m, yeah I'll f***ing take a 25+ goal season.

The biggest concern I have with DeBrusk is that this was his worst ES goal scoring season since 20/21 - the fewest goals, goals per 60 and ixG since then.

He made up for it on the PP but I was hoping to see a bit more play driving / chance creation from him. I was hoping for more of the good version of Mikheyev but he’s more a poor man’s version of Boeser.

i wouldnt be surprised if he hits 40 next year with stable linemates hopefully that man is ep40 if he gets back to his 80-90 pts self. healthy as well.

Yea I was hoping he’d be more noticeable 5v5. But I think he’s also been reliant on linemates a bit for that and this was a bad 5v5 team
