Welp, here for the fresh crow as usual.

Although, it remains to be seen if he keeps up this level of play.

He's not supposed to be able to keep up 40 goal - 70 pt play. This is the issue with reactive posters; When a player is going through a cold stretch they don't understand that the majority of players that aren't star calibre will go through long ebbs and flows.

Really stepping up since JT and Brock went down. Consistency will be key but the tools are there.

When he's cold he doesn't hurt you, plays a 200 ft game.

When he's hot he looks like an all star.

Good signing so far.

Icing on the cake is he outperformed his season averages in the playoffs which is a rarity in the NHL. He was the top scorer in the playoffs on a very good Boston team with players like Pastrnak & Marchand on the roster.

Thing I love about Debrusk is when he wasn't scoring he was playing a 200 foot game, throwing hits, and playing his ass off. I knew the goals would eventually come.

I don't expect 40 goals, but 25-30 goals, while playing an all around game is my bet. He honestly reminds me a ton of Alex Burrows.

In the 1st 9 games of the season Debrusk puts up 4 points in 9 games.

In those same 9 games Elias Pettersson puts up 4 points in 9 games.

In the next 14 games Pettersson puts up 17 points.

In that same next 14 game span Debrusk puts up 15 points.

It’s easy to just go with the ‘he’s so streaky’ line of thinking but this wasn’t/isn’t a case of a player being streaky.

His center was AWOL when he wasn’t putting up points and since his center has started to find his game so has Debrusk.

Interesting point of view.

I would certainly say it’s a bit of both. Debrusk is burying his chances in front of the net which wasn’t happening at all during the first 13 games of the season. And he’s genuinely looking good. Like that OT goal, if Debrusk doesn’t score that goal Pettersson doesn’t get the point.

Pettersson can feed his linemates 20 times a game if he could. If they can’t finish on those chances, then Pettersson ends up with zero assists. This is why linemates matter. He had 102 points playing with Kuzmenko who scored 39 goals. Kuzmenko was producing however in a very loose system under Boudreau and when he didn’t adapt to Tocchet’s system of play, he became useless and down goes Pettersson’s assists.

Mackinnon doesn’t get nearly as many assists if he doesn’t have a 45-50 goal scoring winger like Rantanen.

Likewise with Kucherov and linemates like Stamkos and Point, both whom are 50 goal scorers.

Debrusk is probably the 2nd best linemate Pettersson has ever had from a line of his own. The thing is, Pettersson actually has to be able to make the plays, which he wasn’t for that 50 game stretch.

Bs fans coming in peace. Don't worry it was the exact same thing over on the Bs page when he would disappear. He's either red hot or ice cold. Glad to see he's on a heater now. Just wait till he goes on a heater in the playoffs as he usually does. You'll continue to love him if you can live with the 15 games of nothing in the regular season

Exactly. Other than like 120+ point star players, every player goes through "cold streaks". It's variance. A 0.75 PPG player isn't literally going to score 3 points every 4 games.

I was quite happy with the Debrusk signing and he's slightly exceeded my expectations. He's a good player.

Came in to say this, echo both your thoughts.

For all the talk about Jake being "inconsistent", IMO he's been one of VAN's most consistent players. His two-way effort, wall work, DZ coverage, and breakout efficiency have been consistent pretty much from Game 1. I was making comments on his attention to detail in the DZ in like the first week.

And when the scoring is there, you have a monster player.

Didn't JDB played a lot on the Miller line early in the season? He was also on and off of PP1. I think his slow start is reasonable as it takes some players a bit of time adjusting to a new system and teammates. JDB even said that it took him a few games to get used to playing with JTM.

I was happy with the signing in the summer, he was my #2 target (after Guentzel) as a winger for Petey. He is paid like a 2nd liner that can bring some speed and secondary scoring, and he is bringing exactly that. I think the early return is great on this signing so far, and we'll have to accept the hot and cold streak that comes along with it. He definitely picked a good time to have a hot streak though.

I'm sorry but unless you're name is Gretzky, Mario, McDavid etc, you're streaky.

For example in his best year in Boston he was pointless 42.1% of the games he played even though he had 50 points in 64 games.

This current year hes been pointless in 39% of his games.

All players be streaky.

I actually wonder about that. I do believe there are players who are "consistent" in that every [insert range] they tend to score a goal.

It would make for some good trivia questions. Which player scored his 20/30th/40th goal with the least multi-goal games. Can expand that to factor in hat tricks etc.

I wonder what’s the stats with McD when he scored like 150+ points. How many games did he not score. I imagine quite a bit since he put up so many 4-5 point games.

You can definitely go back and count. I think McD went 7 games without a point that year. I think in Henrik's Art Ross year he went 20 games without a point. I say I think because I might have miscounted.

Edit: Nedved and Bertuzzi holds the Canucks' record for point streaks in a season with 15 straight games with at least a point. Although Darcy Rota had one less game but put up more points during that span.

We are getting exactly what we paid for. And he’s finally producing. He’s getting use to the system and his line mates. Hopefully him and petey continues to click.

Give or take we all knew the Canucks would be after him if guentzal Reinhart options fell through.

From Jake Debust to in Jake we trust.
On pace for 35 goals......just what the doctor ordered when the Canucks signed him to a seven-year deal.

That line of Boeser and DeBrusk, with Pettersson in the middle looks like 'money' right now. And I suppose it is 'money'. as in more than $20m tied up in three forwards.

Like his play so far. Pretty much bang for buck value. Wont carry his own line but is a very good complimentary player on a line with a player or two that like to hold on to the puck.

... but I want him to grow an evil moustache if not a full on beard.
