Player Discussion: Jake Christiansen hype (signs 2 year 975k aav extension)

I like the way Christiansen plays the game. He’s a good two way player. More of a bottom pairing guy that can play on a 2nd pairing.

I think he’s a good partner for both Severson and Gudbranson. All 3 guys I’m all about keeping in the top 6 for the next few years. Whether Mateychuk starts playing with Werenski 5 on 5 all depends on who the team can add on defense. I’m waiting for the Fabbro bubble to burst similar to Nylander.

When I saw Bus had commented on the Christiansen thread, I wondered which player he was going to go after.

I think you might be waiting a while. The guy defends really well. Does a lot of little things well. You might have been a big fan of his if others hadn't got there first.

He's a great story. I was initially excited when he was signed as a FA out of the WHL and I got to see his highlights, I thought he had solid offensive upside as an activating and hard shooting dman. But then in his first NHL games he looked so slow and weak I kind of lost my hope that there could be a future NHLer. But he kept working and rounding out his game in the AHL, and surprisingly has made huge strides near his mid 20's. Now he's clearly a top-7 D on a playoff contender and has signed a well-deserved extension.

I don't care whether it's Porty, Scheig, Hedger, Bob or Jody, I just want someone to interview him and ask what has been the key(s) to his success in the last couple of years.

I literally named 6 roster defenseman, and spoke positively of 5 of them. All 5 guys who were with the team a year ago, and not waiver pick ups. Sorry if I think the existing CBJ players are better than a waiver pick up.

It’s ridiculous what some of you focus on. And that’s without mentioning the narrative control and groupthink.

I’m not saying he’s a BAD player. What I’m saying is that he’s NOT a good option to play on the top pairing, and we have multiple players who are better players and better fits with Werenski.
You've cracked the code. :)
Please explain. Or feel free to actually talk hockey. I’ll be surprised if we get either.

You think I’ve hated on other guys because I wasn’t the 1st to be their fan? That makes no sense at all. People are just SIGNIFICANTLY overrating Fabbro, the same way some did with Nylander.

Fabbro is a 3rd pairing defenseman, and he should be seeing less ice time than both Severson and Christiansen. Fabbro holds Werenski back offensively more than essentially any other defenseman.
