I don’t get the QB pay scale right now/. It’s the most important position in pro sports but there should be a clear tier in terms of who gets paid. Now there is minimal difference or no difference between the top 5 guys to the next batch. Each guy due up gets the most.

But regardless of what they paid Lawrence, Doug’s main job was to get him going. And it hasn’t gone well for the past 25 games or so.

Jags talent, in relation to their draft positions over the past 4-5 years isn't great. Do they have a position group that is considered one of the top 5 or so talents in the NFL? It's not on O that's for sure.

Main issue is that there are nowhere near as many good quality QBs as there are teams in the league. Someone was going to look at Lawrence, say that they can get him back to his 2022 level play, and pay him $50M+ if the Jaguars didn't. And then the Jaguars are back at square 1, with no playable QB.

Same thing with the Packers, except they would have stumbled into another franchise level QB somehow if someone else signed Love.

I get that, plus these players would just hold out if they didn't get paid after year 3 or 4. Lawrence would still have his 5th year option in 2025, but no way he would have played on that like Lamar did. Same with Tua. The team has no other option after them and there is clearly a dearth of QBs coming out of college despite all of the 7 on 7's camps and stuff.
A lot has been simplified for them.

Honestly, since Dak make it as a 4th rounder which was like 9 years ago or something, I think it's been Hurts and Purdy who were drafted post round 1 that have made it as regular starters. Ridder got a chance and failed. Levis, unknown if he will get it again with Ten. O'Connell could not beat out Minschew for the LV starter in 2024 in camp. Thus, there really isn't a "Developmental" QB scenario in the NFL. Really slim pickings out of college these days.
