How did this become a conversation about Francis?

Oh, right, people pumping Backstrom’s tires, claiming he was as good as Francis. This isn’t a referendum on a guy who is probably a t10-12 all time center, merely pointing out that Backstrom was not close to being in Francis’ league.

Not sure, I didn't bring it up....apologies, I tend to get triggered with Francis for no good reason really.

Well, I imagine those who place special value on what he did sans Mario in a league where scoring was half a goal lower per game for each team. He factored in on 52.5% of his team’s production in 1998-1999, compared to 41.2% on a team that scored 120 more goals in 1995-1996. He also swept the hardware, compared to 1995-1996 where he wasn’t even a Hart finalist.

For what it's worth - a few years ago I did a deep dive, ranking all 24 of Jagr's seasons. My conclusion was that 1999 was easily his best.

Jagr to me, a much better 5vs5 player and driver of goal differential. People say he was bad defensively, but the statistics say Jagr was a very good defensive player while Ovechkin has earned his reputation.
