Yes, because most of this board doesn’t watch other teams play, unless it’s against the Rangers. So coveting him doesn’t mean a whole lot.
Umm, whether i agree or disagree with most on here, this board is filled with hockey maniacs who watch ALL NHL teams, minor leagues and international ones. I would be careful of dropping such a line 'round these parts.

He plays tough minutes against the other team's top lines. That's a tough way to make a living. I love Deangelo and Fox but wonder how they'd look if they were asked to do what Trouba does this season.

Just my view, but I think that you will find that to be the going rate in a non too distant future.
$8M is a lot for a 40pt #2-3.

He's getting paid like a 50pts #2.

Its an overpayment. How much is debatable, but he'd be a lot more palatable at 8.5-9%

The Contract is insane. I wouldn’t be as hard on him if he made less but we are paying him to be a top almost elite level defensemen and he isn’t. Once in a while he will have a great game like against Winnipeg but not often enough

Elite players make 10m+ now. 8M for a top line D (Which he is) is about market rate these days.

I agree Skjei has not been good but he isn’t the reason Trouba has struggled. Plenty of mistakes had nothing to do with Skjei. Both contracts suck lol

That becomes painfully obvious when you read reactions to trades or signings on here.
I watch every Rangers game, every Canucks game, and usually a couple other games each day as I have Center Ice. I watch every international tournament, I watched the majority of Buch & Shesterkin’s KHL games, as well as Kravtsovs. I go to a lot of WHL games and about 10 NHL games per year that only 1 of which is Rangers. I highly doubt I’m the only one

If you’ve managed to convince yourself Jacob Trouba is a top pairing defenseman, I would agree that his contract is fair.

He isn’t one though.

You’re definitely not the only one. But you’re not everyone either.
I added more to the post :P Idk man I think this site is the most knowledgeable hockey forum there is, definitely far above the discourse you’d get on Reddit. People who have thousands of posts on this forum are all in like the top one percentile of the world in being obsessed with hockey lol

Yeah, you get the most dedicated fans here. There are posters who watch everything. But there’s also a large contingent that sticks to their team and their prospects.

I apologize, don’t meant to question anyone’s fandom. I do think that most posters on HF are better able to analyze their own players and prospects than those of other teams - by a large margin.

Their fancy stats would take quite a beating. Then the debates would be why those two are playing minutes that they are not meant to ( see Pionk discussions).

Lol, probably. Good point. I'm good with the right side until a decision has to be made because Lindqvist is forcing the issue.

I believe that he is not going to force any issue but be used as part of a deal to strengthen another weakness. Same way Keane was.

I’d hope their fancy stats would take a beating considering Troubas are the worst on our blueline aside from Staal (actually they are worse than his in some areas)
Playing rookies against top NHL forwards would tend to do that. Playing rookies on all defensive draws will also tend to do that. Let me correct myself. Rookies and a defensively challenged DeAngelo.

Lindgren -- Trouba
Skjei -- Fox
Staal -- ADA

It is so very simple to do that.

And once Staal is gone, we can just take the next-best defenseman in the system and slide him into the lineup. If he's a righty, then we put ADA back on the left side where he would rather play.

So simple.

Yet Skjei -- Trouba keep getting paraded out there like they're a top pairing or something.

This is my largest gripe with Quinn to date.

Once you just admit to yourself that Trouba being older than Fox means he's better you'll be able to sleep even sounder.

Also helpful to admit is that we are the only team in history that can shelter 2 separate D pairs. Fox takes more D starts than Trouba to shelter him. Trouba's 9 D zone starts and 20 D zone faceoffs 5v5 over the last 5 games are more than Fox's 21 D zone starts and 27 D zone faceoffs if you add a 0 to Trouba's numbers because obviously 90 and 200 are more than 21 and 27. Also Deangelo scores empty net goals from the bench.

And the "you can't put rookie D against top lines" thing makes sense because the whole Hajek debacle never happened and certainly didn't continue for a really long time. He was being sheltered on the top pair. Or maybe it was a mirage. Or something.

That's probably not it, but that's enough for now.

This is me. I know a lot about other teams, but certainly rely on others to tell me about their players rather than make time to watch myself. If I could watch more, I would.

It's why I used to love the olympics when they let the NHL players play. It was so cool to see the best of the best from each country together. A very rare thing.

God, I feel like I am going to get trashed for this but here goes. Never been a fan of Trouba and admittedly dont understand much of the "fancy stats", but man......what I see is a big tough guy that makes a decent enough of hits and shells out some good punishment, defends his teammates well, etc. But what I see all too often is his less than adequate skating, and getting beat by obviously speedier players. Yes, it happens, but I raise the question......shouldn't he KNOW who is on the ice and "position himself" accordingly? Won't even mention that in my eyes he is VERY overpaid. For that kind of money he needs to be very close to the BEST defensive player on the ice. And to me, he is not. Okay, have at me.
Oh yeah, and he shoots too high!

Isn't it so that the Rangers have the ability to opt out of the contract? And if so, do you think they are currently considering doing so?

Is it most peoples opinions here the Rangers should opt out if they can?
