Jacob Chychrun Big Fat Crazy Contract

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He would have got 10 on the open market for sure. And with the cap going up, good move for Caps to lock him up.

Glad we cut ties at that price. Better off with Yakemchuk, he's the right side version at a low low price of ELC.

Now would it have been better for Ottawa if they moved Chabot and kept Chychrun? I never really found much appealing about Chychrun outside of his shot, but maybe he would've looked better here this year vs last season's shit show

Getting Jensen for Chychrun was one of those 'win-win' type trades.

Chychrun has obviously found a fit in Wash that was not happening here.
A big part of that was him being another left-shot D when we already had Sanderson & Chabot.

Jensen has proven to be a great partner for Chabot and coupled with the reduction in ice time for Chabot, has brought out the best of Chabot.

The concern of course with Jensen is his age. He will be 35 going into next season on the last year of his current contract. He plays a fairly physical shut-down role and does the 'dirty work' of blocking shots and going into the corners and taking the hits. Interesting to see that Jensen (+17) and Chabot (+12) have the best plus/minus on the team, with the majority of the rest of the players being in the minus.

I think he still has a few good years left, as he is still quite mobile and can keep up with the play.
Will see what happens but I can see him getting a shorter term (2 to 3 year) extension deal in the neighbourhood of his current AAV of $4m, to give Yak some time to grow into that spot at 2RD.

I have always liked Chychrun and wanted him to stay, but there is no way the Sens are paying 3 D-men $8M+.

In a different scenario, I would have loved to have kept Sanderson and Chychrun over Chabot. However, Jensen has transformed Chabot's game this season.

Good for him. wasn’t a fit here. Hilarious to read about his offal meals and beeswax candle nights and eye roll inducing nonsense, but no ill will towards him. Glad he found a spot where he feels he fits.

Ya all the power to him, you just gotta laugh at it sometimes.

Like my sons teacher telling me the kids' poor behavior was solely because of the moon cycles or my office manager telling me my relationship was destined to fail because of incompatible zodiac designations lol. Flat Earth type stuff, but whatever, have at it, not hurting anyone.

Jensen trade was great, but I think we should have gotten more than a 3rd as a plus. I guess the market just wasn't there for Chychrun with only 1 year left.

Washington did really well because they were able to replace Jensen with Roy in terms of role. So because they could attract a free agent to replace Jensen, it was really like getting Chychrun for a 3rd and whatever Jensen would have returned from another team (probably a 2nd+?).

I guess he will not increase the rent for his tenants of his home. Stutzle and Fabian can breathe and relax

Yeah, that's the thing.

If we could attract a guy like Roy, or Pesce we could have explored different options for moving Chychrun that might have been better value.

But, it looks like we absolutely wanted a RHD back.

I'd have loved it at the time if we could have traded for Marino, and flipped Chychrun for futures.

Hell, had we managed to send Chychrun to Utah for the Moser package, then used the draft capital from that to land Marino, we'd have been absolutely set... though it probably doesn't work under the cap with the other acquisitions, so maybe no Perron.

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Marino
Moser/Kleven-Hamonic/Matinpalo/JBD

It's a bit of a Josh Norris type risk where he was rewarded for essentially his best and most healthy season (COVID aside).

If Jakob keeps producing like this, and keeps playing as many games as he has over the past 1 and 1/2 seasons, sure it's probably worth it with the cap going up.

Still a fair amount of risk though, both in terms of his health and his level of play.

The trade was a win for both sides. That’s how a lot of these hockey trades do work and should work.

Caps got an offensive LD, and we got a defensive RD to pair with Chabot at a lower cap hit (ultimately).

Win/Win.

The lopsided trades proposals where we get rich and the trading partner gets hosed will always be popular (and “amusing”) though.

I'm not even that much of a hippie, but I'm convinced the moon cycles thing is legit. I worked at a homeless shelter and they would mark full moons on the calender so we could be prepared for a crazy night. Also I just got back from Vietnam and they are on the lunar calendar, many superstitions attached to it. Thousands of years of Eastern civilization gotta know a little something about something, am I right?

P.S. Tết is awesome. Chúc mừng năm mới!!!
