Value of: Jackson Lacombe

He is so good

He should wait it out until next summer for sure. That contract is going to be huge the more games he gets in at this level of performance
There is risk on that…. It really depends on what Anaheim is willing to offer him…

if anaheim is offering 7.5-8.5 long term…. Prob smart to just take that money. Lot of young talent that might take steps next year and take some of the mins he’s getting this year and opportunities.

Mintyukov helleson zellweger already on roster and improving, while guys like Luneau, solberg, and hinds arnt far away

if Anaheim is offering under 7…. Then I’d prob wait until after next year to sign and see if I can’t boost their offers.

Ducks haven't gone long with any of their young guys no?
No, but at 24yo he’s aging out of the “young guys” determination.

He’s a fascinating story. My gut tells me that he comes back down to earth next season as a top 4D (and not the high end 1D he is atm) and we sign him to a reasonable 8x6 or something like that.

Although I’d love for him to keep this pace up and earn a massive paycheck. We can certainly afford it. Especially with Killorn’s $6mil coming off the books the year after Jackson’s contract would start.

The Ducks sure do have a knack for drafting defensemen

Well they're likely to be trading at least one in the next few years. Look at the list:

Left: Lacombe, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Solberg, Smith, Hinds
Right: Helleson, Luneau, Moore, Warren

Not all will pan out, but we already know 4 of them are NHL capable. Doesn't leave much opportunity for the rest. But no rush, they can wait and see what they have first.

Ah yea didn't realize this was his second deal rather than just a late ELC and that it expires next season and not this one.

Yea at 25 I feel like you have to go long. Maybe Orlov as a comp? His second contract was a little bigger but also effectively two years (he missed the entire first to injury, then got a second one year extension at basically the same AAV) and then signed long term at 25. Another guy that wasn't a bona-fide #1 but at the minimum a strong 2 but some uncertainty in his projections. He got $5.1Mx7 which was 6.8% of the cap at the time and gets you to ~$6.5Mx7?

If we can get him at 6.5 for his prime years that would be amazing.

To be fair the only real bridge deals thus far haven't been for anyone who's truly broken out. The only one who arguably could/should have been justified on a long deal was Zegras, but in retrospect a bridge deal was a smart move.

He'll get a similar deal to Thomas Harley imho. I predict a 2-year, 5 mil a pop deal to get him to a massive payday if he keeps emerging. I don't think the Ducks give him 8x8, and I don't think his camp settles on 8 x 6.75. I think they agree on 2 years and punt.

I don’t disagree but not signing 8 years at 8m would be a big mistake for the Ducks.
