Player Discussion Jackson Blake

I've been thinking that maybe trying Roy as our 2C wouldnt be the worst effort. Hia skating iant worse than KK's, hes righty and hes not bad defensively. I'm sure he'd buy in. There just isnt many righty possible 2C's out there.

Is he good enough offensively to be a 2C?

That’s the risk. It’s outside the box thinking for that role, but the truth is there isn’t a ton of truly defined 2C’s in general. Let alone righty’s. Lefty wise we have both Bennett and Tavares out there this year that are interesting and I’m sure there’s others but for righty’s I just don’t know of many that exist in general let alone are available. Lindy and Tro. Im sure there’s a couple of more out there but those are the two that come to mind. Giroux.

I think the way we should deal with having a lack of size in our skill guys is to put the meanest, borderline dirty, you no touch my guys type players around them, and tell them that if anyone LOOKS at our guys the wrong way, handle it. I think one or two big brothers would do the trick even if they were 4th liners.
Way back in the early 70s, my home team was in this position, they had a lot of little forwards like Andre Lacroix and Simon Nolet and used to get the crap kicked out of them in the playoffs. They decided to draft big, picked up don saleski, bob kelly, moose DuPont and a guy named Dave Schultz. It worked out pretty well, as a fan, I loved it!

Makes sense per Waddell’s recent comment that he tried to acquire Olivier for several years. He would fit the mold of a tough guy protector that can also play.

Shane Pinto is the only one I see.

The only way one could frame this as a trade that works for both sides is a swap of Kotkaniemi+. The idea being that the Sens think they're set with Cozens at 2C, and merely need a 3rd line center. With KK, they don't lose size or faceoff acumen, he's defensive-minded and signed to a very reasonable contract for a long time. Pinto is coming up once again for contact negotiations next year, and IIRC, that didn't go well last time.
