I think the lack of enthusiasm for Werenski has a lot to do with the college aspect both him returning and the possibility of him pulling a Reilly. Plus he is younger not yet 18. Some scouts think he has higher potential than either of the other two guys. I personally hope we take him at 8 if that is where we pick even though I won't be at ease until he signs. We don't need another F prospect imo (as I may have stated once or twice :sarcasm:) screw BPA- take Werenski at 8.

I think it has more to due with the defensive side of his game; he'll be a project.

He says take Werenski at the end of his post. Am I missing the sarcasm here, or...?

LOL I totally misread that he posted there.

I mean, yeah it's a joke between me and Espen. Right, old buddy?

The big difference between this potential situation and Reilly is draft position. Reilly was an undersized 4th round pick who the CBJ likely didn't have MUCH interest in signing at first. They saw him as a kid with potential, but he needed to add size. Obviously he added some size and the CBJ wanted to sign him later.
For a 1st round pick we're talking big bucks in a contract plus the ability to get the clock ticking on actual free agency. So would be tough to imagine a kid giving up that kind of money to go back to college when they are ready to play now.
So I would be shocked if it happened (a top 10 pick returning to college). But it is the CBJ we're talking about so who knows :)

After attempting to move both up and down in the draft, the Jackets find themselves on the clock for the eight pick with no options but to make a selection. Given your dual concern about Werenski "pulling a Reilly" and the team not needing "another F prospect," if EspenK is the GM, who do you select?

I swallow my concerns and take Werenski and then try to steer him to London asap and sign him even quicker. I think based on scouting reports he is worth the risk. He barely makes the draft this year by 2 months. If he improves next year I"m sure he would move up in the rankings if he was draft eligible next year rather than this. In my warped, we need a d mind, it will be like drafting a 3rd ranked guy.

Plan A: Trade up to 3 and draft Hanifin.
Plan B: Trade for Hamilton.

Real life: 3rd overall traded for Hamilton.

CGY has fully entered the race to acquire Dougie Hamilton from BOS and may be a top contender to get him. #TSN

Dougie Hamilton trade call on now with Calgary

#CBJ would seem to benefit greatly by #Bruins trading Dougie Hamilton to the #Flames. Clears out big player for #Coyotes No. 3 pick.

Seems to me this trade only makes Boston a player as well. They got a first rounder back for Hamilton. They could potentially offer #15 and Lucic, plus a prospect. Is that a better deal than one that's been rumored from us?

I think that would depend on Lucic's value. If he is a valued asset, Boston would essentially be giving up Hamilton + Lucic + a prospect for the #3. That would be a steep way of going about getting the #3 pick from Boston's POV.

If not, then Boston gets to trade a guy they were planning on losing (Hamilton) plus an expensive forward who had a down year of production plus a prospect.
