“We’re getting really close,” Waddell told The Athletic on Monday. “We’re hoping to get it wrapped up in the 24 hours or so.”

A team source said it will be a multi-year contract, likely four years or more. The Blue Jackets wanted to get Olivier signed by the NHL’s trade deadline on Friday, and they certainly didn’t want him to hit free agency in July.

“He’s an unrestricted free agent who would be welcomed by 31 other teams,” Waddell said, “and I have to take all of that into account in trying to sign him. So it’s been time-consuming, but in a positive way.”

Waddell and Lecavalier made significant progress in negotiations last week, Waddell said. But by Thursday, he put talks on hold to focus on the Blue Jackets’ home-and-home with the Detroit Red Wings, including Saturday’s Stadium Series game in Ohio Stadium.

After the Blue Jackets practiced on Monday, Olivier made clear his desire to stay put in Columbus.

“I’ve said this multiple times: I love Columbus. My family loves Columbus. Everything about it works well with our family and our values,” Olivier said. “The direction the organization is going is great. The guys we have in this room, what we’re building… I take a lot of pride in that , and I want to see it through with these guys in here. There’s nothing I’d like more.”

With the amount of space we have this could be pretty much anything realistic and I'll be happy with it. Olivier is our heart and soul this year.

I was creeping the thread when we signed him. Man we're we wrong lol.

If it is right, great!

I think 4x$4.000.000 because salary cap will be higher and many teams want him.

I’m going to guess 5 years, 3.5 million per and people are going to shit bricks
Given play style (not so much the enforcer role, but 3/4 line and grinder) and Olivier's age. I would expect a 5 yr contract to age fine. $3.5 might be a bit of a stretch, but you have to stretch to keep him. CBJ (hell, EVERY team) needs a player like Olivier. Guddy is the only other placeholder for the enforcer role, and Olivier is much better at it, cheaper and if Guddy is in the line up we need him for PK. With the cap getting to $100M+/-, a 5 x $3.5 would be ok. Some overpay, but Olivier has been a big, albeit indirect, reason why KJ, Fantilli and other playmakers can just play with less concern about cheap stuff from opponents. Not to mention 12 goals by Olivier (we sometimes forget the heater he was on early). Hope this gets done.

I didn't know we were playing with price is right rules. Not fair.

It's interesting we are all putting down five years. I really don't know but five makes a lot of sense.

I don’t know if I’ve ever been more wrong about a CBJ transaction/decision than I was about Olivier. Credit to Jarmo, that was a great trade.

I am envisioning a scenario like what happened 25+ years ago at my Fantasy Football Auction.

We were all sitting around, the auction was going on and there was a pre-season game going on in the background. Don't remember the details except one of the teams was the Arizona Cardinals. Their star WR went out for a pass and crumpled to the ground holding his knee. Looked like an obvious ACL tear. We all saw it. I looked around the room and everyone was furiously crossing him off their lists on their paperwork.

Once the Olivier deal is officially signed, I imagine 20 GMs furiously crossing him off their TDL wish list.
