this is interesting.

jackets GM was just interviewed during intermission and he said he is going to be going to a devils home game and a predators home game coming up (was talking about staying busy on this road trip).

jackets don’t play the devils for another 8 weeks and don’t play the predators again until april.

preds are obvious sellers. can't see nj selling anything other than depth defense if they are trying to bring nemec up.

Without thinking for more than ten seconds I can name three players who would be huge for the Devils to get - Voronkov, Olivier and Sillinger. Not sure who the Devils have on the NHL roster to trade though. Their best tradeable assets are three defenseman playing elsewhere right now.

But alas, these sightings never amount to anything, do they?

I wouldn't say they are untouchable per say, but Voronkov would take a massive overpay, Olivier probably has more value to us than others are willing to pay, he got the A with Monahan and Jenner being out, he's been a glue guy in the locker room. And while Sillinger is available, and cheaper than it would be to get someone like KJ or Fantilli..I still don't think he'd come cheap, he's taken a nice step forward this year, he could be a good middle 6er for a long time.

Silinger might be the most realistic and fills a huge need for the Devils. Plus GMTF seems to look to the present and future when he makes a move. Could be interesting!

To me that feels like an off-season deal, the team has really good chemistry right now and I'm not sure they do anything to rock the boat until it doesn't work

Waddell's been vocal on wanting to extend Olivier. He's an important piece to the leadership group and he's their tough guy. If a deal can't be reached, I wonder if he'll consider trading him regardless of the playoff standings. If it's something good, perhaps he'll trade him. But if it's something meh, might as well hold onto him for the final playoff push and keep trying on a extension. Olivier made it seem like he wants to stay but at the same time, you're going to say that in an interview.

I'm hoping they are targeting Nyquist, and can get him for like a 3rd rounder or something. Or maybe for a D prospect that's blocked like Svozil?

But it's just a GM watching a game. This sort of thing happens 1000 times a year.
