You should check out the Tampa Bay Lightning radio broadcast n listen to Phil Esposito's colour commentary.

Bob has essentially become our version of that.

I don't know if it's cause he does less work with his buddy Jack, or if he's upset with the changes to Oilers Now and other decisions by the network, but it seems Bob's passion has faded a bit and doesn't really bring the passion n energy he use to.

At times it feels like the guy has phoned it in a bit
I’ve got no reason to listen to the Lightnings radio broadcasts so I was shocked to hear Phil Esposito is still working on them. I didn’t even know he was still alive let alone working games. He’s gotta be in his eighties by now.

Jack is the best. He's also a terrific guy that replies to DM's. lol.

Does he and Louie sometimes go off on unnecessary tangents? Sure, but it's not the end of the world because he brings so much passion and energy to the game.

I would ask everyone not to let the fact we were spoiled by having an absolute GOAT in Rod Phillips cloud their judgement.

Listening to Jack count down the last minute of the stars series gave me goosebumps

as much as I bitch about Jack Michaels, overall he's very good and brings the energy you need in a TV broadcast
Louie is getting more and more annoying over the years, with his constant "they might take a look at this!" and seems to getting more and more anti-Oilers

Cam Moon is a pro on the play-by-play...
Stauffer is awful as colour man and always talks over Moon during the play...he's more suited as a pre and post game host and his "Oilers Now" show is still excellent despite the bad time

Bryn Griffiths sucks, he always seems like he ends his sentences with questions...."pretty good tonight, don't you think?"....they lost a great guy when Reid Wilkins bolted

Rob Brown is meh...sometimes comes off as arrogant but a "safe" guy on the radio

You can tell that Bryn Griffiths is very well trained in media, because I feel like he could be dropped in to cover a cricket team and he'd do just as well. The questions are always very broad, leaving the player a lot of opportunity to editorialize, his engagement in response is usually limited to a "yep," moves on to the next broad question, then wraps it up. There isn't a lot there in terms of knowledge or analysis there IMO.

What I've learned about Louie that drives me crazy is he seems to struggle with just saying "the Oilers are playing like shit." It's always due to the superiority of the other team, never just that the Oilers are playing bad. Drives me nuts when he enthusiastically underscores how much the Oilers are being "hemmed in" by the other team as we are watching a highlight reel of insane, preventable Oiler incompetence.

I have no doubt that Jack is a terrific guy but he is terrible play by play man.
He has many times missed important plays because he is so busy rambling on about god knows what.

One thing that made Rod Philips so great was that he was completely invested in the game...every game.
Rod elevated the game with his call. He made the mundane more interesting.

Jack isnt nearly as invested in the game.
He is however completely invested in rambling on about crap no one cares about for most of the game.
The play calling is secondary for Jack....story telling is primary.

That for me is a large part of what differentiates Rod Philips from Jack,
