Jack Hughes will be the 2nd Best Forward in the NHL for the next Decade

Let the record show that I still have not gotten a proper explanation by my earlier question as to how Bedard is better than Jack Hughes.

I guess I'll be waiting a long-ass time, huh? oh well.

I think the flurry of recent Hughes threads and the obnoxiousness of those few "bad apples" of your fanbase has put a target on all of you. It is what it is. I do think Hughes is a wonderful player any team would be lucky to have, and I think he will do amazing things for the Devils.

Once again, most of these threads, including this one, were not created by Devils fans

A simple no would work too but I appreciate the flamboyant element.

Yeah, Pepperidge Farms remembers

Lmk how Edmonton cant muster up a single good season with supposedly the two best players in hockey. Ill wait.

It's in my nature.

Fair, but also those few are extremely obnoxious, so it's a little justified imo.
I get it. But at some point you have to realize that not every Leafs fan was in on Ryder Halak and a second. Not every MTL fan thinks Josh Anderson is worth the second pick in the draft. Not every Rangers fan thinks NYC is the hockey capital of the world. Etc. I’m sure fans of the team you root for have said obnoxious goofy things. Do they speak for you?

Usually I'm the obnoxious goofball  but you're right. It isn't fair to lump in rational fans with the zealots. I don't have anything against the Devils or Jack Hughes or their fans.

It’s tough as a fan of a bad team. When they turn the corner the younger fans tend to get very excited. I am old enough to remember when NJ was awful the first time around. They clawed their way to respectability and won cups and were relevant for a long time. Then they were bad again. Without perspective it’s easy to miss that saying “my team is great” or “my player is great” is going to be read by some as a swipe at the other teams or players. I enjoy learning and appreciating hockey beyond my team and sometimes I can glean things from these main boards. At times it’s tough though when it devolves to sniping and griping. My apologies for any over the top NJ fans. Just know that the group in thr NJ board is not a hive mind and the team and individual game threads are full of posters vehemently disagreeing over things and maybe 10-20% venture to this part of the site because they want to avoid the anger and vitriol.

I don't really think he's a guy you need to be apologizing to. The only reason he's going so hard in the paint in this thread is because his feelings were hurt in the Draisaitl/Hughes tangent of a past thread. So he's taken it upon himself to troll Hughes/New Jersey, purely out of spite that his player wasn't sufficiently worshiped. So, if anything, he's the least enlightened here.

I don't think it's out of the question, and I wouldn't be surprised if the OP called their shot here. Hughes has been better than I'd ever expected. I thought maybe his peak would be what we're seeing now but the bar needs to be set higher, clearly.

But still premature and yes, on the main board, I'd be annoyed at NJ fans if I was not one of them.

No need to apologize for your fellow NJ fans, whatever vitriol thrown my way is 100% deserved. For as long as I've been alive I have never seen my team win a cup, so I understand when things have been bad for a long time and someone like Hughes comes along it's a great feeling to witness such immense talent. And to know that the future looks bright for the Devils. It's an enviable position to be in. I know I say stupid stuff on this forum but at the end of the day I hope everyone enjoys watching their team and has fun doing so. I wish some fans wouldn't take things so seriously but maybe that's part of the fun too. I enjoy arguing about pointless things like Crosby vs Ovechkin or Hughes vs Draisaitl. We all get to watch some awesome players.

Best is such a subjective thing. If someone says this player or that player is better or worse it’s just an opinion and maybe you or I disagree but I don’t think anything good comes from shouting them down. It doesn’t help that most don’t watch many games of other teams. I understand why a Draisatl fan woukd say Drai is a special player. Honestly if the team doesn’t win nobody cares anyway. If Edmonton can’t start making regular deep playoff runs when will the narrative turn on McDavid as great as he is? Hughes is super talented and has to Be scoring much more than his critics expected which some can’t accept. If NJ wins over the next ten years the hardware wil flow and the fans will be happy even if Hughes is only a top 20 forward.

That’s the key. Just come in afterwards and say you are just having some fun. Ultimately does anyone really root against any of the best players? They are all wonderful in their own way. I only root against the miscreants and guys who look to hurt fellow players which I find disrespectful and unprofessional. I try to remember that every single team in the league has very young or disabled fans who need their spirits lifted. All of those fans deserve something positive and meaningful to cheer for. Every single one.

Hockeydb Leon Draisitl Age 22

I'm not so sure pepperidge Farms remembers all that well. Me thinks pepperidge farms has a goal post to move.

Hell going by your last statement Pepperidge farms can't remember last year. Perhaps more goal posts need to move as well and good seasons only mean cup finals.

God Pepperidge farms needs to be sued for false advertisement :P

He’s a 1995 birthday…

Why is everyone so upset anyway? Why do Devils fans care what other fanbases think of their players? So they don't think JH is a top10 player? Who cares, he'll still keep scoring and winning games for the Devils no matter what other fanbases think.

And why are other fanbases so upset? One guy suggests he'll be the #2 player in the world? If a poster would write that Roope Hintz will be the 2nd best player in the league, nobody would care people would just laugh it off.

Is it Hughes' personality or the fact that he's a Devil? You hate the Devils so much that even the suggestion that their player could be top2-10 in the league somehow offends you. Or maybe you've been part of the 'Hughes will be a bust' tribe ever since the draft and are now too invested in hating him, because you're so afraid to be wrong.

It's fine to be wrong, I thought Jonathan Drouin would become one of the best players in the world. I also thought Tim Stutzle's game wouldn't translate into NHL and he's about to enter the same top player in the league conversation as Hughes really soon.

And @fly4apuckguy unfortunately proves that point by saying the quiet thing out loud.

If the player is Canadian, then he's God's gift to Hockey.

Doesn't matter what team he plays for.

Just unreal. :shakehead

(I guess it's my fault for venturing out here and expecting sound reasoning as to why Bedard is better than Hughes. I got what I deserved : Nothing.)

and with that, I'll just head on back to my board where we don't judge players based on the country they're from but from their overall play.

Take care everyone and enjoy the Allstar game. *salutes*

No.

Lots of Canadians play below expectation. Lots of American play above it.

Patrick Kane has had a HOF career. Alexandre Daigle was an abysmal failure. Not a god or anything close to it. Kane is a hockey god, and I acknowledge that. I respect him as a player.

I am saying I don't care about how well American players do. Because I don't. I cheer for Canadian players. Why? Because I am a Canadian, and I do not care about American hockey or its players, quite frankly. I am being very clear on that. If that offends people....once again, I do not care.

Sid Crosby's worst day was better at 21 than Jack Hughs and he got destroyed by Rangers, Caps and Flyers fans on here for years, mainly because he was Canadian. Fine. I don't care.

It's called liking someone for your own reason. Grow up and accept that is what happens in big boy land.

So at least that’s an admission that the same bias you’re complaining about and applying to Hughes gets a pass when it’s “your” guy.

Admit it? No, I CELEBRATE it. I have massive Canadian bias, and always will. I can also accept reality, like if a guy like Draisaitl is doing great, I am happy as an Oiler fan. But I never want him to outshine McDavid, who I truly care about as a Canadian. I'm just being honest. I know this generation isn't used to that, but there it is.

I mean, look at my avatar ffs. I'm not hiding anything.

Not that I care about the overall argument here when it comes to Draisaitl, but he turned 23 on the day of game 9 of the 2018-2019 season.

Given that he was 23 years old for more than 90% of the 2018-2019 season, I think most people would consider that his age 23 season.

You realize that Jack has the same amount of goals as Crosby did in a full season at 21 years in 49 games right?

Crosby didn't even lead his own team in scoring at 21.

Glad you like stats. That's nice.

I watch games, not stats.
